    Steam Locos

It's still not "glamorous"....I never took much interest in US steam, thought they were ugly boilers on wheels. However, visiting Altoona changed that. There were some pretty decent looking locomotives built there. Dave A

    Steam Locos

A couple of years ago, my son and I travelled to Altoona PA, to watch a baseball game. I didn't know at the time that Altoona was home to the famous Horseshoe Curve, which we visited. Altoona was also where many steam locos were built. I was thrilled to bits to check out the museum that yielded...

    Covid vaccination process

I don't think that would have been the same situation in the UK, Mike. You got off to a great start with vaccine roll out, we are about 3 months behind you because of procurement issues, and....as it turns out, distribution issues. Dave A

Good music to listen to on U Tube

Been following this band for more than 5 years now...3 brothers and a drummer. Sound a lot like Led Zeppelin, which is fine by me. They are using a Hammond Organ a lot these days, which is also alright by me. It's good to hear youngsters playing classic rock in this day of not so classic music...

    Guildford Street Lozells

I'd be curious to know just how many houses there were on Furnace Lane. I'm referring to houses with an actual Furnace Lane address. If my memory serves...and it's not what it used to be, I don't recall any houses on the first section of Furnace Lane, just the back yards of Porchester St. Dave A

    Tamworth field trainspotting

Yes welcome indeed! to a very diversified and wonderful group of people (that I've never met) Trainspotting was very representative of our age group and defined our love of motive power. For me, it was foremost in my ability to travel around the UK. Everywhere I went was tied to...

Actually, I don't believe it made much difference which way you went. We did go Nechells, Saltley on the way there... Dave A

    Furnace lane..

We very rarely referred to Furnace Lane, it was always the 'Gulley'. It was more of a Lovers Lane than anything else. We would use the first gulley to get to the #8 inner circle bus to go to my Aunties in Balsall Heath. Returning in the evening, our mom would make us look the other way when...

    Furnace lane..

I have to agree that is at Gower St. We designated Furnace Lane into 3 separate gulleys. Starting #1 at Porchester St to Clifford St. #2 Clifford St to Gerrard St, & #3 Gerrard St to Gower St. #3 is the only one that has cobbles (I believe). Dave A

    Covid vaccination process

Are there any choices as to what vaccine you receive in the UK? I ask because there is growing concern about the effectiveness of the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine. We are being strongly advised not to shop vaccines, but reading social media comments, there are definite preferences... Dave A
