    Spring Hill Library

Interesting Victorian building [grade II listed] but as for running a modern library service in it........................... BCC is bankrupt and the reality is that there is no money to keep all library sites open as thet are. Another factor is how little use was made of some libraries...

    Billesley Police Station

I remember it when it was operational. We reported our missing dog there - many years ago when police actually patrolled their neighbourhood. I also remember when police horses were based there - often saw them walking past our house in Oxford Road. Always sad when an historic building goes.

    Birmingham Coop Vehicles

Found a very similar photo - perhaps even the same vehicle? It was labelled "Birmingham co-op had a huge fleet of mobile shops which served new estates and other areas with no branches. This example, seen in 1949, was probably fitted out by the society, and came with a handy roof rack for...

Bencraft Ltd ( wheelchair manufacturers )

In 1949 when Bencraft exhibited at the British Industries Fair they had premises in Broad Street. Much later they had premises at The Avenue, Rubery at least until the 1990s. Inabout 1998, I think, they were taken over by Invacare [now a large multinational]. Bencroft was formally disolved in...

    Henry Garner

Garners and the associated buildings were demolished in the early 1960s and replaced by "Moneywise" fronting Alcester Road with offices above and a snooker hall at the back. Moneywise was a great emporium for bargains of all sorts. We were very sorry to see it go. That said it was a very ugly...

    Typhoo Tea Bordesley Street Digbeth

Although no longer in Birmingham, always sad to see the end of a local icon. Famous tea firm Typhoo on brink of collapse as drinkers switch to coffee Typhoo - one of Britain's oldest tea makers and famous for its 'only get an OO with Typhoo' ad slogan from the 80s - is set to appoint...

    Heathfield Road, Kings Heath

Many thanks for information. To sum up[I think]: The large attractive building at 23 etc was built about 1910 for Ten Acres and Stirchley Co-op. Slightly surprised at its size and position so far from the High Street. TASCOS was one of the most successful co-ops with over 50 branches in...

    312 Bradford Street, Digbeth

Our latest parish magazine contains x4 pictures of church processions in 1913 including this one in Conybere Street showing the Rollo Car Co. Works.
