I have changed my mind seeing the cleaned up version and I am sure that it is Chester Assay Office which closed in 1962 so I agree with others now suggesting Chester. I believe that often Birmingham items were sent to Chester if Birmingham was busy.

Good music to listen to on U Tube

As soon as I heard the first notes I recognised the piano as a Steinway. However I put aside my prejudices and really appreciated the quality of that performance.

    Give us yer donny

French words used in English don't always mean what we think they mean. I live at the end of a Cul-de-Sac but if I translated that into English from the French I might upset the moderators. As I moved out of Birmingham across the border into the Black Country, I am told I should call it a...

Good music to listen to on U Tube

I made of policy of only buying LPs as I thought that a better deal but this is one of the very few singles that I bought. I think it was the punch line that sold it to me 'The day that my momma socked it to the Harper Valley PTA'.

We do not know if the vaccine would require refrigeration although if the hold was not heated this would not be a problem in the air but would be with the ground handling. I think that figure of 8,000 must assdume that the vaccine was produced all in one big batch which is not going to happen.

The lion signifies 92.5% silver and the three castles, the Newcastle Assay Office. However Newcastle Assay Office closed long before the date of the inscription which suggests that it was a much later inscription on an old medal.

I never flew on a 747 although I would have liked the experience. Largest plane I ever flew on was a DC-10 British Caledonian flight from Gatwick to JFK

My grandmother used to play this on an old 78 for me when I was a young child every time I visited her.

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

One of the links on this page took me back to a post I made back in 2013 when I gave the definition of 'shooting brake'. I had forgotten that, which must have been that last time I saw that term. Even then it must have been the first time in many years I had used the term.

Welcome Sheila. We haven't had many postings from the girls for a while. Although we were two schools we were in the same building and a shared history and eventually the two schools were merged.

    Centenary Square development 2020

I came across this video online. Difficult to know which thread to post it on as it shows a walk from Brindley Place to New Street However as much of it shows Centenary Square, I thought this the most appropriate. Not having been in the city centre since the beginning of March, quite a bit of...

    Victoria Square

I have to attend meetings in Birmingham Council House over the next few months so it will be much better as we cannot always get a room at the back of the building and those rooms are small which is not good at the present time. So I am not sorry that the market will not be operating.
