Here the demolition has started - what was the rear of the properties is now a sea of bricks as they work down the road removing the single storey rear ( outhouse / WC ?). Not sure what has happened to the middle property as it seems to be missing some bricks half way up the wall.

Unfortunately it doesn't take long for vandalism to take over, the building on the left seems to have had the front door forced - windows have been broken too. I wonder how long Doreen had a shop here? next door has the wire window covers and the corner shop has the Silk Cut window adverts...

We now move to the Old Smithy - corner of Winson Green Road and Norman Street, taken August 1991, slightly different as this is a Banks's pub, made in the mock Tudor style but perhaps overdone with too many black beams? Leaded windows and an angled roof line with plenty of eaves.

First up today - Aston Hotel , Witton Lane , taken in the early '90's, in the feaux historic style, lots of stone window frames and leaded glass, nice shaped ridge tiles, and an ornamental chimney in the middle. Just point out the two modern telephone boxes.

Last one on Roll 54 - I will give you Bristol Road Northfield - but its still a bit vague - I can only add there are some serious telephone poles on the right !!

The last two pictures may be of interest to some - unfortunately it comes under the banner - middle ring road work - we know it is the Lucas end of the route but I don't know the area to make an educated guess. Its still 1991 by the way.

The next picture although rather dark shows the massive changes that has gone on in this area, the roadway is lowly moving on - the shutter is getting ready and more building to be cleared - another change to come is the demolition of the Lucas Building, seen here dominating the area
