    Costermonger pub

I first started using The Costermongers in 1974 when I had a saturday job at Littlewood's. I remember a small stuffed bear on the bar, the air puck and electronic darts games. The pub sold the usual Ansell's beers but also sold Lowenbrau German lager, which was a lot more expensive than Skol...

    Wh Smith

Felt quite sad when I read this and I wonder if anyone can help with a query. I remember the WH Smith shop in Corporation Street beside Yates's Wine Lodge and had only just started using it when it closed down around September / October 1974 and opened it's 'new' shop in on the old Henry's site...

    Chelmsley Wood Pubs

Eureka! I have been hunting for this photograph for years and I've finally found it. It shows the actor Dennis Price serving the first pint in The Trusty Servant in Chelmsley Wood on the 28th October, 1971. Price played the suave serial murderer Louis Mazzini in the 1949 film Kind Hearts and...

    Villa Street Lozells

I thought they might have been, Lyn. I did search in the forum to see if they were there but I couldn't find them (they may have disappeared in the 'Hack') so I put them up thinking there might be one you haven't seen. I hope you've backed up your collection, I'd be heart broken if I lost my...

St Peter's Chapel St Peter's Place

I did discover some photographs of the church being demolished but have included them because they're quite sad to see. The photograph I have included is the church being prepared for demolition (even that is demoralizing). The pews are gone and the altar rail is dismantled.

    St Silas Square Lozells

I was working for the Urban Renewal department of Birmingham City Council in 1976 and the job entailed a lot of walking. I got to know Lozells and the surrounding area very well and there amazing shops and pubs in the area. A lot of the houses and the 'Places' had very well tended gardens. I...

St Peter's Chapel St Peter's Place

I agree Lyn, St Peter's Place looks beautiful in the sunshine. I remember St Silas Square in May 1976 with the blossom trees in bloom, that still is in my memory after all these years.
