    Shadwell Street

Those photographs are fantastic Mike! Look at the slope of the pavement outside the garage. I remember walking to school in the mid 60s in the winter and that sloping pavement was thick with ice. People, including me, were slipping and sliding into the busy road. It really was quite frightening...

    The Gunmakers Arms, Bath Street

Excellent news, I'll make the effort to go and buy a pint. This pub brings back a lot of memories for me. I remember enjoying a drink with my gran, mom, and sister outside the pub on one of those warm summer evenings in the city around 1967.

    Old street pics..

My old school St. Chad's Junior's was behind the cathedral on Shadwell Street. I used to run home on the The St. Chad's Queensway while it was under construction. Don't think I'd do it now.

The Toreador and he Market Pub opposite the markets. Looking at the car models I'd say it was the late seventies.

    Kings Night Club Hamstead

Correction, the site of The Kings Club was on the corner of Spouthouse Lane and Hamstead Road. It was demolished and an Esso garage now stands in it's place. Apparently the club was originally the pit head baths for Hamstead Colliery...

    The Queen's Head, Erdington

Sorry, no date for the photograph but the pub didn't appear to change much up to when I lived in Erdington in the 1980s.

The Sacks Of Potatoes, Gosta Green

Birmingham’s Polytechnic had Art & Design faculty which I think opened some time in the mid 1960s... https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/birmingham-institute-of-art-design-biad-gosta-green-history.42593/ As for the history of Aston University...

    Summer Lane Pubs

I think what is so heartbreaking, Lyn is the pace that the old pubs, and indeed the old buildings of Birmingham are disappearing. In the 60s the old people would tell me about the old buildings they knew and had grown up with. Now the buildings that replaced them are being demolished, the...
