Former Midland Red Stourbridge Bus Station to get a refurb

IT was quite an unusual garage because I seem to remember some of the services departed at stands situated inside the garage. I remember standing waiting for a bus and not far away was a newish Leyland National in a vehicle lift, Of course like most bus garages it has long gone. Maybe if lloyd...

Re: My Question is Why Were The B.C.T. Trams Trolleys and Buses Painted Blue and Crea To be honest I did have my suspicions ;)

My Question is Why Were The B.C.T. Trams Trolleys and Buses Painted Blue and Cream ?

Re: My Question is Why Were The B.C.T. Trams Trolleys and Buses Painted Blue and Crea I have given this some considerable thought:) and have come the the obvious solution. The buses are blue and the dustcarts are green so that there is no confusion during busy...

    Birmingham 1946 bus street scenes

Note that both this and the Wolverhampton footage are listed as trailers for PMP videos, this suggests this footage and almost certainly a lot more should be available on DVD.

Just found this, thought it might be interesting

Glad you found it interesting. I worked at the branch at the Holly Bush, Quinton when I was at school, during one summer holiday. Those bikes were trecherous and I do rememebr selling a jar of fish paste to a customer. I was supposed to be shelf stacking but as I turned I came more or less face...

    bedford dupal

I always thought the VAL was quite a nice ride and they had quite a distinctive sound from the Leyland engine, remember how the air brakes used to make a sort of "wheezing whisle"?? I believe I am right in saying that the first VAL to have the Bedford engine was delivered to Ashmore,s Coaches...

    Restoration of KDZ 5805

I have only just read this thread and I too would like to say all the best with the project. Finding safe secure storage for a bus is always a problem and always has been. It looks to get worse as the collection at Aston Manor will have to move when the Museum closes. I believe one of the buses...

I wonder if back in the 1950s anyone would have predicted that both M&B and Ansells would be but just memories well before the millenium?

Evergreen, as someone who comes from Cradley Heath why on earth are you giving a link about Garrard? They were B.S.R,s arch rivals !! Thats really really naughty!!!

Only just noticed this thread about R.G.D and the reason it caught my eye was that in 1957 my parents bought the first family TV. My sisiters and I knew nothing about it until one evening it was delivered all shiney and new. The TV was an R.G.D and I seem to remember it was known as a "Deep...

And lets not forget that old walrus, McMillan telling us that "we had never had it so good" from many aspects he may well have been right!

    Birmingham in 1950s

I was born in 1950, my mother did not work when we were young, I have two sisters, but she did part time when we got into our teens but that was much later in the 60s However I do remember quite a few of my pals mothers did work ,certianly in the mid/late 50s, in fact come to think about it...

    Hawksley Mill

Might there have been an Iron foundry in the area? The Cupola furnace, a type of blast furnace, would over a period of time produce plenty of slag. I have mentioned previously its quite useful stuff as hardcore, it may well have been transported into the area. The Austin Works had a foundry but...
