    Computer help

If you're losing apps from windows it might be that they're not really disappearing and you're just losing desktop icons. In that case, this might help. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/desktop-icons-not-showing-in-windows

How to I find old street maps?

If you need old maps for free online This is a good place to start. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=16&lat=52.45680&lon=-1.89650&layers=102&b=1&z=0&point=0,0 The interface isn't quite perfect and you can have trouble finding out the exact date of the map you're looking at but it does work.

    Ghost signs of Birmingham

For what it's worth, James Dicks was a confectioner at 22 High St Erdington in 1912 to 1930 In 1935 it's still a confectioner but it's Albert Edward Aston as proprietor. The directory before 1912 is 1898 and it doesn't have a listing for High St Erdington.

    Ghost signs of Birmingham

The shop had been a confectioners from WW2 to the 60s and before that it was a pub. The sign on the wall was probably advertising for somewhere else that might have been close or not. The descriptions of the place are a little diverse to look up on their own and we don't have the top line which...

    Daleks in Birmingham

Still no luck finding the Bull ring pictures but this was taken in 1985 and I think it's up by the library.

    Daleks in Birmingham

It did happen, at the moment I'm trying to find the pictures. I can't be sure of the date and I'm not sure finding the pictures will help.

    CHRISTMAS SONGS AND VIDEOS

OK so this is slightly off subject but, given the title of the last track, I just couldn't resist.

    Computer help

Curious, I have an Epson Perfection V500 her that runs on W10 using the original Epson Scan utility. According to Epson the drivers for the V100 should work if you have the latest version https://www.epson.co.uk/support?productID=1861#product_search should take you there although you might have...

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

True, although there is some political pressure to put in a Balsall Heath station. Resurrecting Camp Hill would be a lot cheaper and would be more accessible. The question was, without the station, why keep the name?

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/search-begins-for-contractors-to-build-three-new-birmingham-railway-stations-10-12-2021/ Above is the link to the article shown. It does have more detail than the image - they reckon to start sometime next year. Odd that they should keep the name "Camp...

    CHRISTMAS SONGS AND VIDEOS

I heard on the Breakfast news show that Ed Sheeran thinks he's just written the first song actually called just "Merry Christmas" - it's not true.

    Record shop favourites in birmingham

If I remember correctly, Revolver records at one time had a bag with a gun on it and half a dozen bullet holes each of which had the address of one of their shops but, strangely, none of the addresses were in Birmingham. I think they had a small shop in the Pallasades on the centre block...

    Record shop favourites in birmingham

I've also heard that in some places the sleeve was punched and hung up by a piece of string on market stalls. These were holed by some sharp pointed instrument which always seemed to make that more likely.

    Record shop favourites in birmingham

The record stall I remember was in the bull ring rather than the market. They had an exhibition there for a week or two called "The daily necessities fair of the People's Republic of China" and the stall was selling 5 LP's for £1. Some had little holes in the top right corner like they'd been...

    Computer help

Daisy Wheel was something I only ever heard of used in typewriters and, maybe, some early word processors. Once we got to PCs it was dot matrix printers. All of them used to use ribbons rather than ink tanks and you'd have to change ribbons fairly often depending on how much you used the...

    Old Maps Website

I tend to use this site https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=52.45680&lon=-1.89650&layers=175&b=3 Excuse the extended reference but I found it easier to start at a certain point every time. It's easy enough to move around although it's a little harder to find the map you need - the box...

Links: Library Of Birmingham Web Site

The regular Birmingham Librairies email includes an ad for their new archive of photos at https://brumphotoarchive.co.uk/ . It is billed as an "unique collection of over 8500 photographs documents the growth and development of Birmingham, its suburbs and surrounding area since the 17th Century"...

Maurice Barnwell. ex KEGS Camp hill

I wasn't at Camp hill until the late 60s but there's a lot of material from the Art School (although a lot of it is obituaries lately). https://www.facebook.com/groups/271981757754530/ https://www.facebook.com/moseley.art.school/ http://www.moseley-art-school.co.uk/ Hope some of this is useful.

    Typhoo Tea Factory plans

I don't remember Rose's charging for car parking although a lot of things went on with the new mangement at the end of the 90s that I didn't necessarily know about. I know that Latif's used to charge for parking when they took over the car park at the end (2001).

    Middlemore Children’s Emigration Homes

https://birminghamheritageweek.co.uk/15-sept/stories-of-the-lost-children/ A talk in kings heath by Val Hart from the Balsall Heath Local History Society. Places are limited so it's a good idea to book.
