Hockley Station 1854 to 1972, any pics or info on the station and the grade II listed cast iron urinal?

My family lived in Hockley and I am trying to find out about the railway station. From what I can gather the Hockley railway station was opened in 1854 and closed in 1972. The railway station was re-opened (not at the identical original location) in 1997 on Vyse St and re-named the Jewellery...

Lionel Strawbridge And Laurie Williams, The Nightingale Club, I'm Kat Strawbridge, Tracing Family.

Hi Maurice Sorry late reply on this one, I've had a year of recovering from a couple of operations etc, so I haven't really thought much about the search for Lionel. I haven't seen the entry that you have seen in the 1939 register. I kind of tried not to look as there are loads of...

yes, geese, they are good at guarding. That's what I would have if anything. Someone I lived near rescued a goose and used to take it for a walk, never had to worry about it meeting a dog, it knew how to look after itself! Seriously off topic, sorry.:dizzy::dizzy:

I bet your dog loves that, being able to detect visitors must be easy!!!! I can see the relevance in places being open plan, security must be a reason, but somewhere for people to rest and just sit and enjoy the space that they are in would be good.

I agree, they do look dismal when raining, and we get a bit of rain to say the least!!!!! And it would be lovely for people to sit and reflect as well as some where for people to just rest if necessary. Why doesn't this kind of thing get taken into account, surely the planners must think of...

    Birmingham Newspapers 1939-1945

My family used to talk about WW2 a lot, but as we moved to Redditch early on in my life, I couldn't place where they were talking about. Today, on this forum is the first time I have seen newspaper clippings of WW2 relating to Birmingham. Lots of the programmes on TV feature London. I have...

    Birmingham Newspapers 1939-1945

I haven't read all of this thread and I wasn't born until 1972, but just to think of all the planning and execution that went into the war effort, well it must have been amazing. It is really good to look back and think of what people didn't have and how they survived, not to mention the...

DNA Testing, what are your experiences?

I am just wondering what experience anyone has of the DNA testing that is offered on the genealogy sites? I have not undertaken the test myself and I do not know of anyone that has. Any info would be appreciated, thank you.:):):)

Prince of Wales Theatre Broad St

Just looking at this thread again, it's really great to have had the map (thanks to the links from this forum) and to see these pics, I can sort of get a mental image now of how Broad Street (and surrounding area) was. I had found out lots of info, but it was quite frustrating for me as I just...
