They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

A lovely picture bringing back great memories. Always look to see if I'm in a picture like this if the date seems right. What a shame that this kind of traditional market is killed off in the name of progress. Cheers Tim.

Tims Drapers Key Hill. Hockley, 1950's.

The price of 4.1/2d was a common price when I was a kid. I seem to remember that a loaf of Hawley's bread (with Crust on that I picked on the way home from Aldworth's shop in Turner St.) cost that much as did a bottle of Mason's lemonade if you returned an empty bottle at the Ansell's Off...

Brum traffic images from 1960s onwards ?

Strange how the pictures on this site don't equate to the memories I have of the fun times spent in the traffic of Brum.

    Snow Hill (the Road)

Thanks Lyn and Mohawk for memory pics. Used to be able to look down and see into Wimpy's from the bus coming home from Handsworth Tech ( if my failing memory serves me well?). Met up a few times with mates at the Kardomah and cut thro Gt Western Arcade to get bus from Bull St 37 or 44. Had a...

    Snow Hill Station

Hi Peg Monkey, I've mentioned somewhere before that my Mom was the managers of the Wimpy Bar in Snow Hill when it originally opened and then moved to do the same when they opened the more up market branch in Broad St. I don't think I ever went to the Snow Hill one and think I only went to the...

    Memories of the Avro Lancaster

Remember seeing a model of a Lancaster on Road Show ,very impressive as it was a one off, very detailed and quite large. I don't think they were able to give a valuation as it was a one off and would depend o n several factors. Anyone know anymore as I'm sort of on the sidelines regarding...

The Pilot Inn? Pub In Northumberland Street, Birmingham?

At a guess I think those maybe water containers and bunkers for sand to deal with incendiary bombs. That would make the date during the WWII. Cheers Tim.

    Clocks

The joke here in Oz is that they don't have Summer Time in Queensland as they think the extra daylight hour will fade the curtains

    See Birmingham by Post Card

Hi Lyn, Thanks again for lovely pics. Like Maurice I also left Bum on 1961 and like you regret how the BCC have torn the heart out of the city and suburbs. At one time in the late 50's I was doing some classes in the Old University building and thought what a fire trap it was as all the floors...

    Swanshurst Park

I used to go to Swanshurst for the boating with my mates as well as Cannon Hill Park. Same situation and boats just different parks. On one occasion we arrived at Swanshurst Park to find all the boats beached and the lake drained for cleaning. I was surprised at how shallow it was. Cheers Tim.

    Handsworth Technical School

An apology, the unfortunate girl was actually Christine Cox who I had morphed with another of my childhood non sweethearts Hazel Booth. 65 years is even a bit more confused in my memory than what I did last week. Cheers Tim

Weather : past adverse weather in Birmingham

I can remember the lake at Cannon Hill Park being frozen, maybe 1947.
