    Grandmother's sayings

My nan, when asked how old something was or how long ago something happened, would always deepen her voice and say, with a wonderful Brummie brogue "Ohww! Donkey's Years", I still don't know what that means, but I use it, too, much to the puzzlement of my American friends:)

Hi Astonian, You mentioned St. Marks street: I am not sure if you are old enough, but just in case, do you remember a Sarah Fellows who lived in St Marks street (Richmond Place) in the 1940's? Thanks

    DUNKIRK

Hi Cromwell, I have just read your description of the battle of Dunkirk. I would describe it as marvelous, if it were not such a serious subject. It is very moving indeed. Thanks for taking the time to remind us all of the British people's suffering and bravery during those dark days in 1940

    Icknield port road

Interesting posts, Does anyone remember "Park Terrace" on Icknield Port road? that is where the Fellows' lived at the turn of the century. The back to backs were still there in the 60's, I believe. I wish it were as simple as going to Google Earth and having a look. :)

My great grandfather John Fellows, and many of his brothers and sisters, and later on, his children, lived in various houses up and down Icknield Port Road, during the late 19th and early 20th century, before settling down for good in St. Marks street, Ladywood. The entire family never seemed to...
