    Berry Mound hill fort Solihull

I see that it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest: 8a. Berry Mound Camp: The site is a SSSI (Berry Mound Pastures) for its flower-rich grassland as well as a Scheduled Monument which provides opportunities for visitor engagement. I assume there is no public access currently?

    C&A on Radio 4

What was interesting in the programme as well is that C&A thrives in other European countries. The mistake seemingly was to have centralised buying, so one style of clothing was sold in all shops. Britain said to be fashion forward. C&A is unusual as it continues to be a family run private company.

    C&A on Radio 4

Thanks, the programme is on BBC Sounds if you have the App. I didn't reckon much to the young mens clothes, but a few years later the lighting department was more stylish than Habitat and a fraction of the price.

    Dudley Road record Shop

Rising Star has a long history. In May 1985 Cecil Morris started PCRL Peoples Community Radio Link which was a pirate radio station. In those days legal stations did not play reggae and other music from the Islands. https://www.thepiratearchive.net/pcrl/

    Needless Alley

View from Temple Row end towards New Street. Many of the paving slabs are broken as there's a lot of unloading of beer barrels. The red bins contain commercial waste. The doors are mostly back entrances these days. After this I relaxed to half an hour of choral evensong at the cathedral.

    RIP OZZY OSBOURNE

Selfridges have a large mural of the young Black Sabbath inside, near menswear. They also have a very large yellow bull, similar to the one in the Bullring, but not made of bronze. Good to see the band and Birmingham celebrated!

Are you near Cody's Italian shop in Bearwood? They close Mondays, but authentic produce.

    George Shaw, early Victorian photographer

I think that aside from historians of photography like the much missed Pete James few people had heard of him. George Shaw (1818 -1904) was born in Dudley and buried in Key Hill. (I think as I'd never heard of him either.) Derek

    George Shaw, early Victorian photographer

An interesting way to display the exhibition outside, I guess it may be seen by passers-by who wouldn't enter a gallery or museum. A technical paper by Jo Gane is here: https://journal.sciencemuseum.ac.uk/article/photography-and-electroplate-in-1840s-birmingham/#abstract 'Photography and...

Christmas Traditions – What Were Yours Growing Up?

Pork pie for Christmas breakfast was a treat and doesn't require any cooking on a morning when lots of cooking would be done? On ordinary days Mom would have weetabix with jam and hot milk, I gather Dad ate grape nuts. I much preferred pork pie to these horrors! We have pork pie still at...

County Chemicals 'Chemico' County Perfumery Bradford Street

I never knew that Chemico was made in Birmingham. Mom used the pink household cleaner to clean the stove, pots and pans and the Belfast sink. Its smell is evocative and not unpleasant. I think that in the UK it is now sold as 'The Pink Stuff', but retains its original branding in South Africa.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The Crown Hotel has its own thread. We hope it can be saved, but it is on the corner of Station St which is under threat of redevelopment. It would make a great music venue - good to know Mark Knopfler played there. Still closed at the moment.
