Thank you. I think Blacks may have been demolished before my childhood memory tapes start - I can remember THTJB though - we went there most Saturday mornings.

The Austin's aero industry in the 1940's

I posted a number of photos of female aircraft workers at Longbridge on the "Female War Workers" thread.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

It says "Subway" on the map above so I am guessing it was for trucks rather than trains as the bend is too tight for trains - and it has buildings in it

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Not a perfect match as the original photos were taken from different places, but here is a diorama that shows both tunnels:-

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

And finally - this is the view from the mid-80's - Jewellery Quarter station is here now, and the new building you can see on the right has itself been flattened and replace by the Goods Shed and adjoining buildings you can see in #1194:-

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Fast forward to 2024 - scene looks a bit different now - this is the Hockley tunnel mouth shown in the photo in #1192 with Jewellery Quarter Station on the right - note how the painted area above the tunnel has survived - I believe this is so semaphore signals mounted above the track could be...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

And in case you are wondering what was inside this mini-tunnel:- The tunnel seems to have a bend in it and comes out in the photo on post #1189:- This is looking out of the tunnel looking towards the old Hockley station site just as building work was getting underway - note building on...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

You can just see this structure on these photos taken late 70's / early 80's - I'm standing right where Jewellery Quarter station is now:- Here are some "full frontal" views - note the huge crack above the tunnel that has been repaired in the colour photo posted above in #1191:- There is a...

    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

Lovely crescent moon in the evening sky a few nights ago:- This was about 2 days after new moon, quite low in the sky so difficult to photograph. Move on to last night and things get a bit easier:-

    Earliest sound recording

The Museums Collections Centre in Dollman St have some very early recording machines and discs/drums etc - no idea if they work or what is on them but may be worth a try as a "starter for 10"?

    Bundy clocks around Birmingham

HI Lyn - yes - think the first one I had posted previously. Adderley St dump was a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon when you had some film for your camera - no-one bothered that you were there in those days.........

    Adderley St Dump early 1980s:-

    Dunlop

If it helps - I think the Dunlop photo archive went to the Gaydon Museum - it contained around 100000 negatives, photos etc so it may have what you want

    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

How about this - the International Space Station from our patio a few nights ago:- This is probably the best one - you can quite clearly see the solar panel structure:- Taken handheld on a 150-600mm Tamron zoom lens at 100ASA for anyone interested!

Railways, in , close or associated with Birmingham

I think it was the signal box that controlled the (then extensive) carriage sidings in and around Vauxhall and Duddeston Station - but not 100% sure! Use for shunting purposes only - not for actual trains. Note - most of the track for these either side of the station is still extant under the...

Railways, in , close or associated with Birmingham

Aston Signaling Centre en-route to New St Station:- Look to the right of the door - it still has its original "Vauxhall Shunt Frame" sign! I wonder if this is the only genuine signal box still working in the Birmingham area? Off the top of my head I cannot think of another one.......

    Ghost signs of Birmingham

And this one on the run-in to New St Station - doubt this building will last for much longer?

    Ghost signs of Birmingham
