Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

Today I was reminded about one of my visits to Chicago. I had met up with Jamie Oldaker, Eric Claptons drummer, and he decided to take me around the Chicago Museum of Transport, or whatever the official title was. During the visit we were shown an original German U Boat. It was incredible. This...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

The sad passing of 'Prince' today, and Victoria Wood yesterday. Last week the BBC did a 'same period' comparison for 2013, with 5 'name' deaths, 2015 there were 12 'name' deaths, and this year, at the end of last week, there had been 26 'A list/big name' deaths. A really sad start to the year...

    Early Radio

On the subject of 'early radio'. Now almost forgotten is the time when we needed a wireless licence if we had a radio in our car. To not have one was an offence. Eddie

Almost 83 years old, the Birmingham History Forum is a wonderful website for me. To contribute, relive memories, read past history, and enjoy social conversations with some hugely funny people, helps to pass some of the days away. I still live a full, and busy life, but I do so enjoy checking in...

    Childhood Memories

Re: Cadbury's Bournville Still Smudger. Back in time a £1000 was a nice little win. No, Ray Ellington, although also black, was English, and Duke Ellington was an American. Eddie

    Childhood Memories

I know Smudger, but someone has to remember the good old jokes. Les was wonderful. Like, where we lived they knocked down the houses and built slums, or, until I was nine, I thought a knife and fork was jewellery. Eddie

    Childhood Memories

Re: Cadbury's Bournville Not really a scam. If he sold millions of lines each week, then law of averages states that someone would win something, from which he then took his cut. He would always boast that he had winners every week. It may be true, even if they only won a few bob. He must have...

We never had anything. Until I was eight I never had any clothes, then my Mum bought me a cap so that I could look out of the window. Eddie

Re: Cadbury's Bournville Dick Barton, Special Agent, with his associates , Snowy & Jock. Light Programme 6.45pm till 7.00. The same time as the original Archers programmed, which, I think, took over from Dick Barton. In the children's programme it was Uncle Mac. Back on track. Radio...

    Sad Times (2nd Class City)

Was there not a plan afoot (no pun intended), some years ago, for a new football stadium to be built by the N.E.C? If I recall it all correctly, the Blues would have had the new stadium, and Birmingham City Council would have been involved in the negotiations, and assisting in the financing. Eddie

    Sad Times (2nd Class City)

There have been many occasions when I have said that, to succeed in football these days, you have to buy everything. The best players, the best coaches, the best grounds etcetera. However teams like Bournemouth and Leicester are proving that that is not necessarily the case. Here in Norwich...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

This is my greatest memory, and the most wonderful. 55 years ago. Easter Saturday, April 1st 1961 @ 2pm. St. Andrews Church, Norwich. marrying my lovely wife Beryl. Easter Sunday: Both of us travelling to Bournemouth to commence a summer season at the Pavilion Ballroom. Easter Monday...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

Just got me thinking about how we, as musicians, got around in the fifties. Very few cars around in those days, and even fewer young drivers. When John Crump (Oldbrit), and I worked in a band together, the only driver was Rob, the bass player. We would pile into the car, John, myself, a piano...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

During the fifties, our bass player, Vince Thomas, carried his double bass on the bus, for 'gigs' in Birmingham, two or three times to my knowledge. He used to get funny looks, but no conductor turned him off the bus. Eddie
