    Great Hampton Street

I have looked in vain for a dedicated thread to Great Hampton Street but cannot see one. I see bits and bobs dotted around the forum but this is a street that deserves its own thread. Well, in my humble opinion it does. Anyway, if this old turnpike road floats your boat I have published some...

The Gothic - Great Hampton Street

Being as one can obtain a 250 year lease for an apartment in The Gothic for only £409,000 plus annual service fee, I am considering moving to a location where it is still a bit edgy, oh sorry, I am supposed to say trendy.

The Gothic - Great Hampton Street

I cycled over to the former Gothic Inn yesterday and have 'improved' my page at https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/great-hampton-street/gothic-inn.htm with some more pics.

    Acocks Green Congregational Church

If Birmingham had moved all the buildings they have knocked down to a bit of wasteland then they could have actually filmed "Peaky Blinders" in Brum rather than the BCLM. Seriously though, think what a museum the city would have had - and a boost to the local economy in the age of heritage tourism.

    Census 2021

I applied for such a role. Being as I search the old census records I thought I could make a contribution to future researchers. They never got back to me.

    The Greet public house

Well, I have laboured over this one for two days. Voila - every publican since the day it opened to the 21st century : https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/warwick-road/greet-inn.htm

    Census 2021

When I was in the military and crossed the Iron Curtain, my passport and documents were taken [almost certainly photocopied for the Stasi] which took a while. Then the military guard would salute me, to which I had to return a salute as a sort of mutual respect. It was all very John le...

    The Greet public house

Now, before anybody says : "That's not the Greet Inn," this photograph was a matter of metres away in Manor Farm Road. I never know if these show the Coronation or the end of war party! Great pic though. Or Greet pic!

    Acocks Green Congregational Church

Only a gap of 12 years since the last post but I have a pic I have just prepared from my site. I have guessed at the date of 1900 but it could have been taken when the church was enlarged four years earlier?

    Census 2021

Having lost my job because of Covid, I found some of the questions bizarre. Like what were you doing? What was your role? Have you been looking for work? I thought for a minute I was filling in a form for the Department of Work and Pensions!

The Havergal House in these photos dates from the autumn of 1934, the foundation stone being laid in September of that year.
