The Woodman Tavern Duddeston Row New Canal St

Here is a close-up pic that I doubt if anybody has seen .. until now! I put a few notes to this - just click on the photo. Can a bus enthusiast confirm if that is a Bundy clock next to the horse trough? https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/enlargements/duddeston-row-trough.htm

    Albert Street

Could I suggest a re-wording of the thread, or simply shortening to Albert Street? It is true that the properties in Duddeston Row were added to Albert Street in later years but Albert Street and Duddeston Row were separate thoroughfares for much of their existence. A shame that many fine...

The Woodman Tavern Duddeston Row New Canal St

I am thinking about doing a bit of Duddeston Row. It is, however, one of the streets for which I have very few images. Anyway to clear up a few things I have seen on the thread here is a map I have prepared for my page. It is based on a 1945 map though I should stress that by this point the only...

    The Pelham

The gas-fitter Leonard James Thomas was at No.1 Pelham Road in Kelly's 1921 trade directory. The 1925 electoral roll shows Clara Richmond at No.20 Belcher's Lane. She later moved the short distance to 765 Alum Rock Road.

    The Pelham

A view of the corner across the road from the pub. I think that may be a K1 telephone box, similar to that at the Avoncroft Museum near Bromsgrove ... https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/enlargements/alum-rock-road-pelham.htm

    The Pelham

Another view of the Pelham Arms in the 1920s. I think I paid £20 for this postcard but it is not sharp so I cannot read the smaller writing on the cart belonging to George's. I wonder what firm this was? Sparkling water perhaps...

This view looks directly along Pelham Road with shops on the corner of Belcher's Lane. I have not looked up these businesses but the names above the shop fronts are L. J. Thomas and C. Richmond. https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/enlargements/alum-rock-road-pelham-shops.htm

    The Brookhill Alum Rock

Here is an interesting clipping from the front page of the Birmingham Daily Gazette published on Saturday 8th March 1924. I was interested in the factory that used to stand across the road from the Brookhill Tavern. It has taken a very l-o-o-n-n-n-g-g-g time for women to break through the glass...

    The Brookhill Alum Rock

The one element of the Covid procedures that I really liked was table service. When I visit Belgium this is standard procedure. I dislike queuing at a servery trying to attract the attention of a member of staff.

    The Brookhill Alum Rock

M&B surrendered four licences in order to obtain permission to build this place so the closure of the pub means the loss of five public-houses for Birmingham. This view from the Alum Rock Road side of the building is even better than the last pic ...
