    Rivers: River Blythe.

In 1950's I would find my way to R Blythe on two fronts, From Coleshill down Maxstoke Lane to the "lido" at the bottom of the hill by the bend.(picture) And to Packington ford for minnow fishing, using bottles with indented bottoms. Not sure where they came from we certainly didn't have...

Sad story of Silhill Hall, Solihull.

Remember the story, always imagined the hall was in palatial grounds, not on a street corner! Must have driven past it a "thousand" times. Wasn't there a World's End Garage nearby.

    Acocks Green

Remember this wind pump as being near the canal bridge when I lived in Acocks Green. The structure was somewhat delapidated, certainly not doing much pumping.

    What 3 Words

Had a chat with voluteer life boat man, they are not set up to use what3words, if there is a call from a user the coastguard can tranlate the code to lat/long for use on the lifeboat computers. There is some concern about misspelling words but it is very unlikely that "a misprunt" would be in...

    What 3 Words

Not sure how yet but I imagine it could be useful on this forum, if you looked up the three words for a particular feature then you convey, within three metres it's location to other members, what do you think?

    What 3 Words

Sorry can I amend title, should be "What 3 Words". So you find the three words from the app from your position and then your contact can enter them into their app and so find your location on an online map, as you say useful in countryside or perhaps at sea?

    Acocks Green

My parents married there in 1939, the Church was bombed in 1940 and services were held at alternative venues including the Warwick cinema, I was Christened there but I wonder if it was at the Church or at one of the alternatives.

    When Everyone Wore A Hat...

A knitted base ball cap? Peak to the front I do hope! A cap was part of my school uniform fairly rigorously enforced. I can't remember my grandfather out without a hat, cap or trilby even a very smart one in hand on his wedding day but I don't recall my father or his siblings wearing a hat. I've...

    When Everyone Wore A Hat...

I went to a football match on Saturday, I wore a cap, it kept the sun out of my eyes.

    The challenges of Building Railways

I'm rewatching the wonderful series "Full Steam Ahead" as a box set on PBS America (see British History). Well worth a watch or re-watch if you want to learn how railways facilitated the industrial revolution. Wonder how the railways were built with shovel and spade in relative view years...

Shows how little traffic there was in 1930's to off load passengers in the middle of a traffic island. Apart from the trams that were discontinued in 1937 this view is as I remember it the mid-1940's. Notice the bus behind the tram, No1 to Moseley.
