    Birmingham Municipal Bank

I can't believe I haven't put in my tuppence worth on this subject, but I did a search and nothing was found. My first account was at Acock's Green, 1111, Warwick Rd. the sort of number you remember. Probably around 1945. I too remember the wide wooden counters and the brass foot rail, what was...

    Birmingham Newspapers 1939-1945

I do dislike St.Phillips being referred to as Pigeon Park. Reminds me of 1950's Tom Lehrer Poisoning Pigeons in the Park!

Very familiar, corner of Hobmoor Rd and Stoney Lane. Often used that bus stop in 1950's.

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

Camp Hill line had a mention in yesterday's prime minister's questions; local MP suggesting that the route should be extended to Longbridge. Eminently sensible, if you were traveling from Kings Norton to town by train you would certainly go via Bournville, to Pineapple you would most likely...

    Hairdressing & barbering

What's with all these gents hairdressers. I live in a large village, population around 10,000. Twenty years ago we had just one, then the two guys each opened their own shop. Now we have SIX the most recent is a plush Turkish style. I can't comment on how good they each are as I have stuck with...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Always a pleasure to play at "the dunlop" such a quality sports ground. Mind M&B always provided a crate of ale at the end of a game which perhaps made them the top choice venue.

Photography and Electroplating in Birmingham in 1840s

Interesting read, maybe especially as I did apprenticeship in electroplating '58-'61. Do remember having to endlessly polish 6''x 4'' brass plates to a mirror finish to act as test pieces, as mentioned.

    Computer help

Had similar event with my laptop. But our local shop, TechOut "fixed it" absolutely for free. OK he was honest enough to admit that all he had done was switch it on and it had worked and even more important it has kept working, but he could have given me any tale when I went back to collect it.

    Holidays of the past

Used to cycle to school regularly so was reasonably fit but didn't do hostelling trips, then one year a friend who was usually to be found doing fifty mile bike races had been injured and invited me along as part of his recovery programme. It was this time of the year, last week in September and...

King Edwards Grammar School Camp Hill

I'm another that remembers DI.Thomas with affection, he was my first year form master in 1951. Didn't go on to take "O" Level history but I do remember him along with Tony Appleby taking us to buy a pint in the Red Lion, King's Heath after a School v Staff tennis match.
