    Redex

I can't remember carbural around the midlands. The use of Redex became a way of life, it was natural to always ask for shots with your petrol, this was in the time when petrol pump attendants where around, no serve yourself in those days. Thinking back, I also remember amongst the petrol pumps...

    Redex

Who remembers the "Redex Refresher", Injected into your fuel pipe by an oversized oilcan at the time of buying petrol. This was supposed make your car run better and quieter, It cost a penny (old) a squirt and usually injected at the rate of 1 shot per gallon. All I found that it did was to...

    The Kingstanding

Hi Bren, The Alley did not reach our house but stopped a few houses down. there were a lot of those alleys or Gullys as we used to call them behind the houses in Kingstanding, great short cuts in most cases. Used to play cricket amongst those trees on the Bandywood, The Wooden classrooms at the...

Hi Jayne Our children used to go to Doe Bank Infant school, that was in Frampton way, but that was in the mid 60's, Its possible that that school was not around then though. I think a lot depended upon which side of the Queslett road you lived. Goffy

    Queslet Road Great Barr

We used to live in Doe Bank Lane, They used to dress that Shire Horse and milk float up on May Days, it was quite an attraction then. I think it was from the same farm they used to collect our kitchen waste, from a pig bucket we kept in the back garden. Goffy

Thanks Mike, I should have remembered it was not a helicopter, yes I remember the Big Bopper & Richie Valens. I was only fifteen then but Buddy must have been one of my favourites. Swimming Lessons

We used to go to Kingstanding baths, but from Kingsland Rd School, Coach? we had to walk it, all the way there and all the way back, one string of children. I used to prefer the walk back! We had to enter the pool down steps at the shallow end, and move around the pool holding on to the rail...
