    Handsworth Technical School

Hi John, I started in '58 as you finished, but the masters were very much the same from what I can remember. You mentioned a stand for your anvil, we never made one of those, but you can see my anvil and casting in an earlier post. We did have Mr Ball for PE, our swimming lessons were at Grove...

    Remember hand signals

Jean, sorry for the delay, the circular motion of the hand was the one you used to turn the handle to get the window down, up and down, its no wonder they used to break down. I passed my test in a BMW Isetta bubble car, it was left hand drive so I was excused hand signals, but If I remember I...

    Remember hand signals

Yes Arkwright, Air Con would have been no use then, we must have been driving around with the windows open all the time.

    Remember hand signals

Whenever a driver turned without giving hand signals I would call out (only to myself) "whats up mate had your arms cut off", its funny I still say the same phrase now at inconsiderate road users.

    Remember hand signals

Hi, I was sorting through some old paperwork and came upon an old copy of the "Highway Code" (probably the one I used when passing the driving test), thumbing through the pages I came to "Hand Signals", How could I ever forget those? Arm straight out of the window to turn right, Arm out of...

    Tyres remembered.

I remember all those years driving on "Cross Ply Tyres", can't remember the makes, they hadn't got the grip that radials give, especially when they were nearly down to the canvass, the introduction of the MOT put a stop to that. The tubeless tyre came along, but if your rims wern't up to it they...

    Petrol Price's

We heard a piece on "Smooth Radio" News this evening that tax on petrol & diesel is rising by 2p per litre from midnight. I cannot find any other reference to this on other news features, is this just another sick "April Fool Joke" or are the government about to twist the knife in the wound many...

    Turner Brothers Toolmakers

Hi Virusman, Should be some exploring, during the times of Turner Bros the main building was, correct me if my memory is failing, the bottom floor was mainly "A" department, containing Large vertical boring machines, planers, and other larger machinery, also housing the Heat treatment room and...

    Redex

Hi Louis, Thanks for that, Im out of touch with "two strokes these days". Those petrol pumps, and all the fancy ingredients, used to be based on the Octane rating of the fuel. Used to be well known that if you used the High Octane mixture you would burn your engine out much quicker. Goffy

Hi Teh, I went to Kingsland road school 1948 - 1954 I cannot recall the name you mention, not surprising. My last teacher before I left was a Mr Enticknap, excuse me if its not spelt correctly, perhaps this may ring bells. I had a friend around that time in Esher road, he was Victor Kirby...
