    Yew Tree pub sign Witton

Hope I've picked the right thread. I'm having an ongoing debate with friends about a painting on the side of building of a man up a ladder painting the building. This was in Witton Road between Birch Rd & the Yew Tree pub in the early 60s. Are there any photos of this? Would love to see it again.

    Various street pics

Yes, on the corner of St Mary's Row - Loveday Street. I've inserted a Google Earth photo to show the place today (so many lovely buildings now gone forever). Even though it's impossible to get the same perspective today, I noticed that the Bull's chimney still lines up with the original photo.

    Guildford Street Lozells

Yes Dave A, I was in Mr Dean's class in my 3rd year. He used to throw the blackboard chalk at us if we angered him. Other teachers were J.D.T.Ball Head Teacher, Mr Williams 2nd year, Mr Wally Eyton, Mr Robertson P.E, Mr Cross science & a teacher we called "chrome dome", possibly Richards?

    Guildford Street Lozells

I've put two photos together to make a panorama of Guilford St & Gower St. In 1960-61 when I was in the fourth year over the road at Gower St School, I was often charged by our teacher Mr Ward to go and get his daily sandwich. I also bought myself a tomato dip sandwich which cost 2d (tuppence)...

    Icknield Street

In 1953, I lived over the launderette right opposite to those toilets. It's great to see there's now been a use for them rather than being demolished.

    Guildford Street Lozells

Great to see photos of Guilford St between Gower St & Gerrard St. We used to hang around there outside Stanley Huddleston's house with our mates 1960-61, no doubt annoying the local residents. Together with Stanley, Teresa Green, Thelma Jones & Danny Haywood (who lived in Gower St) come to mind.

    Advertising in the past

Although I don't remember ever seeing this myself, I think this advert was from the 1950s.

    Memories of the Avro Lancaster

I am a 1940s re-enactor and while at Kemble in 2010, had the great privilege of looking around the BBMF Lancaster.

    Buses To West Bromwich

When I lived in Hamstead during 1957/58, we kids used to catch a West Brom double decker (#1) school bus to Churchfields Comp. It used to start around Green Lane and go down to Hamstead, up the Old Walsall Rd to the Scott Arms and down the Newton Rd to Old Church. There were always two or three...

    Great Hampton Row

The photo in the middle of post 184 is the junction of Great Hampton Row and Great Hampton St. The factory on the right was W. Canning in 1962 when I used to get off at that bus stop to go to work. The buildings on the left are still there.

    Whitehead street, Aston

Remember that well Lyn. As the bus was lifted, some girls who were watching started screaming which made the rest of us think the worst. I see that even this item says junction of Whitehead "Road" & Alma Street. I have noticed from other postings that Whitehead Street is not that well known and...

    Icknield Street

I came across this photo of New Spring St ( left side) but, don't know if it's been posted before. Together with the great photo that Phil posted (#361), I made a panorama of them. It looks like they were both taken by the same person.

    old car snaps

Fascinating to watch and strangely sad to see the demise of an old "classic" which was just considered an old banger then. I used to go there for various bits & pieces, they used to let you climb all over the cars yourself. Noticed the old Morris Factory on the other side of the railway. Looks...

    Co.Op.number.

Still have our card from 1967. Funny now, to think of the milkman coming to your door every day and you knowing his name. Together with Butchers and Bakers and all those friendly independent shops becoming extinct, we've lost a lot of those personal services.
