Nice Pic Wendy, The large building at the top of the hill is still there - painted white - the GEM building. Just before it, you can see the pillars of the GPO Sorting office wall ans entrance. KH Cemetrery is opposite them

    East Meadway 1956.

I drooled over your window just as you were taking it over! many a happy hour spent dreaming over the Hornby Catalogues!

    East Meadway 1956.

I went to Central Grammer, behind these shops in Gressel lane. The end shop used to sell Hornby railways - often spent some time staring in that window!

    Snow Hill Station

I understood there were also stable there for the delivery horses, but unsure where. I can recall the warehouse that were still there in 1971/2 - massive places with space for hundreds of wagons.

Sorry Viv, Cattle were certainly detrained and stored at Hockley, maybe fopr 'resting' or something. My Mum remebers they occasionally had run-aways / escapees on the Flat nearby.

    The Ring O' Bells

I drank here at times in the 1972-3. It was a bit sad and run down by than - agree with 'depressing'!

    Snow Hill Station

VIv, Mikes map on 370 is of Hockley Goods Depot by Key Hill cemetery, not Snow Hill. The "Subway" is Ickniled St - a single lane road than - now a dual carriageway. THe warehouses went across the bridhe, obscuring the view of trains from the Spring Hill Library side. The noise of the trucks...

Harry Oates - final resting place

My own experiences with several Cemetery offices is that a general email is obviously a 'fishing trip' and therefore can wait. If someone just asks for 1 persons grave details in order to visit, they believe they will quickly look, and double check if they do not find them. If you do get a reply...

Harry Oates - final resting place

My experience is that nearest cemeteries is not always the case. Depends upon if the cemetery of your choice has a time/date available to suit both you and your undertakers. Normally undertakeers will offer a choice of dates/places that they can do i.e Iget ito x on y day at z time, or get into...

    Public Graves

Hi Andrew, The surving memorial that you have photographed is B 1794. B 1793 would have been to the left of this - you can see the corbals on the wall wher it used to sit. Many of these have fallen or been pulled off the wall, broken & either burioed where they fell, or removed as scrap in the...
