Great news Lyn - You do have tell them about the Public Works pics - some of the staff there last year did not know about them themselves!

    Hockley Hill

One of a set of about a dozen mostly dated 1953 held in the Library. As you say the Index cards are often a waste of time - have searched for St Micheals, Mint cemetery, WL Cemetery, cemeteries, etc - Never thought to look under P until I was told, and than they are not in the card index under...

    Hockley Hill

Great pic Bernie, taken in 1953 from approxiamtely the site of the bomb that landed in the Cemetery. It took years to find this pic (with others). The Library kept saying they had none of Warstone Lane Cemetery, until one day an ex Librarian said that they did - but they were filed under P - for...

Pherhaps he meant daughter in law, rather than daughter? ps I noticed the factory unit the other side of the dual carriageway was being done up as "The Big Top" - New Asian wedding place!

He was a real nice old gent Lynne. Pity I hadn't more time to stop & chat. I asume his daughter is co-owner with her husband - the one who does the washing machine side of things? It was good of you to get the pics down and photographed. My eldest brother worked there on saturdays when we lived...

    Hockley Hill

Hi Lynne, Popped into Harry Smiths yesterday and chatted to an eldery gent - Mr Smith! He is the father of Amanda who currently works there, and who you presumably chatted to. He was saying he was one of the last Smith directors of Smith & Pepper - now the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter It...

Winson Green / All Saints Asylum

One of my colleagues is a Warder at Winson Green - he is now off the Wings and in the office receiving new clients, etc - based in the remains of All Saints! He does the trip every day between the two - Think he prefers the Prison rather than the paperwork!

    Snow Hill Station

It's not looking too bad for modern construction. Just wish they'd finish the bottom of Snow Hill though! Had my first trip Snow Hill - Marylebone last Weds. Made a change from going NS-Euston (though I came back that way for speed!) How Bordesley has changed!! and nice to pass right by Wembly...

    Snow Hill Station

Superb little trip! Walked that many a time in 1971/2, first undertaking mtce at Hockley Signal Box, and later to remove all the cabling after the line was closed.

    St George's Church Newtown

Interesting about being a candidate for B'ham cathedral - just too far from city centre? That may well have saved it had it been chosen!

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Hi Rosie, Lots of bulbs showing through now, and many daffs in bloom! Pity Mr Rosie never had his pic taken whilst visiting - be great to see what it looked like! The 'Huge Angel' was presumably a little more uphill of where it now lies? Lost the power of flight! Pam, You have to remember that...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Hi Wendy, I always remember my folders when I get home - but they disappear before I get back to the Cemeteries! My current KH folderstill has a damp & waterlogged cover because it rained in the night before I went back for it last occasion! Pherhaps the McKnights were canny and having a foot...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Rosie, I think yours are safe - Your Gt Gt Grandad is probably leaning against the back wall, Either having a fag, or waiting for some little old lady to walk by.......? As you go uphill, you will see there is a space between the back wall of Publics and the Wall of the Mint - good place to put...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

WL site of P 1582 marked by folder - 2nd row in from wall. 5 years ago this area was an inpenetrable jungle of trees, brambles, etc. Still requires tidying but a BIG improvement!

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Cheers Shortie, David is in contact with me occasionally, but recalls little these days - lot of water under the Bridge, new career, etc Barry the former Handsworth Supervisor confirmed some of the internal corridors were filled up with coffins and than sealed. Neither could recall the layout of...
