    It’s not what they built it’s how they built it! China for example basically copied the Japanese high speed rail, and who knows what their costs really are/were. The shin kan sen (spell) I first rode in 1976 I believe from Tokyo to Nagoya. They started slowly and developed techniques over time...

    Great points; however looking at the Chunnel, its utilization is still far below the original planning assumptions and seemingly HS2 will be the same way with a much smaller footprint and higher cost and longer time than planned.

While I am not impacted personally, watching through these threads a simple description might be: you are not getting what your original expectations were (by far), at a much higher cost and much later date.     I wonder why they stopped doing those, the trains and boats were always full, not the least the beverages and food that were sold on the boats! I understand nothing lasts forever but in 1961 and apparently longer we're still going strong!

    Is there a new estimate? I would imagine the trains would be scheduled around high traffic times, if so what happens to the equipment in slow traffic times, if that had been published.
