    Record shop favourites in birmingham

I've also heard that in some places the sleeve was punched and hung up by a piece of string on market stalls. These were holed by some sharp pointed instrument which always seemed to make that more likely.

    Record shop favourites in birmingham

The record stall I remember was in the bull ring rather than the market. They had an exhibition there for a week or two called "The daily necessities fair of the People's Republic of China" and the stall was selling 5 LP's for £1. Some had little holes in the top right corner like they'd been...

    Computer help

Daisy Wheel was something I only ever heard of used in typewriters and, maybe, some early word processors. Once we got to PCs it was dot matrix printers. All of them used to use ribbons rather than ink tanks and you'd have to change ribbons fairly often depending on how much you used the...

    Old Maps Website

I tend to use this site https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=52.45680&lon=-1.89650&layers=175&b=3 Excuse the extended reference but I found it easier to start at a certain point every time. It's easy enough to move around although it's a little harder to find the map you need - the box...

Links: Library Of Birmingham Web Site

The regular Birmingham Librairies email includes an ad for their new archive of photos at https://brumphotoarchive.co.uk/ . It is billed as an "unique collection of over 8500 photographs documents the growth and development of Birmingham, its suburbs and surrounding area since the 17th Century"...

Maurice Barnwell. ex KEGS Camp hill

I wasn't at Camp hill until the late 60s but there's a lot of material from the Art School (although a lot of it is obituaries lately). https://www.facebook.com/groups/271981757754530/ https://www.facebook.com/moseley.art.school/ http://www.moseley-art-school.co.uk/ Hope some of this is useful.

    Typhoo Tea Factory plans

I don't remember Rose's charging for car parking although a lot of things went on with the new mangement at the end of the 90s that I didn't necessarily know about. I know that Latif's used to charge for parking when they took over the car park at the end (2001).

    Middlemore Children’s Emigration Homes

https://birminghamheritageweek.co.uk/15-sept/stories-of-the-lost-children/ A talk in kings heath by Val Hart from the Balsall Heath Local History Society. Places are limited so it's a good idea to book.

Scams: Telephone, email, texts, other 2021

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000ywtq Last week's Panorama. If you haven't seen it yet and are concerned about this sort of thing, it might give you some idea of what's out there and how it's done.

    J.R.R.Tolkein

From this, the New Zealand government paid £100 million for the fist series to be filmed there. Chances are, our government paid a whole lot more than that. While it's possible that Amazon will have something entirely unrelated to the writings of Tolkien which would enable to set some of it in...

    Trafalgar road moselely

As I remember it, the Traf was getting a reputation for drugs (as were several other bars in Moseley) so they closed it down for a while. At least it's open again. Although all I saw in a brief visit before the virus happened was one bar (the one on Trafalgar Road), I don't think any of the...

Can anyone identify or make any educated guesses about this gentleman?

As far as I could see (and I could be wrong) this guy is wearing something with an odd top button (3 holes - they've not been used that much) and it seems to have a pattern of sorts. There's not much contrast there but the designs seem to be circles or spirals. Neither of these seem to fit with...

Scams: Telephone, email, texts, other 2021

Think of it this way. When you send mail through the post office, where is the option to provide the email address of the recipient? A supplier who has sent you something on the internet might have your email address but not the post office.

Can anyone identify or make any educated guesses about this gentleman?

Looking at the photograph, I'd say he was wearing some kind of patterned shirt with what appears to be an ornamental button at the top. It doesn't look like a uniform the big button has three of its holes clearly visible and uniform buttons tend to have loops at the back. From the other pictures...

    Comics

I remember going to a few in the 80s or 90s - generally for the stuff that wasn't in N&C or the other comic shops and keeping to books mostly because it was hard to follow a series with their schedules.

    Ladypool Road.

I don't think the van outside was parked. I've zoomed in a little and you can see the driver in it. This picture is part of a sequence of half a dozen or more pictures that, admittedly, concentrate on what is going on outside the church at the left of the shot. There is at least one other that...

    Typhoo Tea Bordesley Street Digbeth

Couldn't have lasted much longer. I think Roses moved in in 1980/81 and there were quite a few alterations made before then.

    occupants of 151 Varna Road

There's a lot said about why the houses around there were pulled down. Most obvious reason is that the city were working through the area slowly and it was their turn. They'd done the bit between Bristol Road and Pershore Road in the 60s and this was next. There were some false starts (the...

One mistake in the text beneath the page. S Rose closed in April 2001 not the late 00s.

    Scanning

Possibilities. Most tablets have some form of built in camera and usually two of them one facing front and the other back. You can use that to photograph your cards direct to the tablet. In a lot of cases the charge lead for the tablet will connect to a 3 pin plug by means of a USB port. You...
