    Wyndham John

From Wikipedia his father's name was George Beynon Harris. Kelly's have 7 George Harrises in 1912. 2 are listed with a middle name/initial but they are Hy and T so they can be rejected. The addresses of the rest are:- 112 Church Rd Moseley 2 Hampden St Balsall Heath 67 Kendal Rd Sparkbrook 3...

    Wyndham John

What name were they using and who would have been the head of the family at the time? I have a copy of Kelly's directory from 1912 that has a listing for private residents in surname order. It's not necessarily going to have the listing but it's worth a shot. There are over 2 columns of Harris...

    Record shop favourites in birmingham

Curious about the Virgin record shop mentioned. The first one I remember was on Corporation St up toward the university. I think they had a downstairs but no escalator. Then they moved to Bull Street - i don't remember that one but I don't think it was big enough for an escalator. Next there was...

    Moseley school of art

https://www.facebook.com/moseley.art.school/ For the ex-pupils, this is probably worth looking at/joining if you haven't already. There was a fair sized group of pupils and a couple of ex-teachers at the Wednesday event while the exhibition was on and it looks like there will be another reunion...

    Typhoo Tea Factory plans

If you've got access to post on the above site, the only access to the basement is via the lift at the front (bordesley st) side of the building. It did tend to flood in heavy rain and all that was down there was a strongroom with a fullsize vault door. What you're likely to be seeing is only...

    Brunswick Club, 464 Moseley Road

It used to be 464 Moseley Road. The building is still there but it's a Ladies Gym/Spa called Odara.

    Primark

You seem to think of this as a new building. They have changed the exterior but I don't remember anyone doing any real demolition to the old building so I suppose it's just a new owner at the Pavilions...

What do you watch on tv nowadays ?

If you can stand to watch through a computer, you might try https://archive.org/details/moviesandfilms?&sort=-downloads&page=3 and https://archive.org/details/feature_films?&sort=-downloads&page=4 (scroll down a bit) generally movies some going back further than those you'd usually see.

    Computer help

Flash was something Adobe came up with for animations. It's a kind of file that you may or may not be able to access on your browser depending on which browser and which version. It isn't any use for non-interactive video. Some sites may use it for graphics or interactive animations but I doubt...

    Computer help

HTML5 shouldn't be a separate download. The browser should have been able to read HTML5 years ago although different browsers would have slightly different ideas as to what it is exactly.

    Irish in your tree?

I have one of those names that could have come from a lot of places. Although dad came from Ireland, there are variants in French, Scots, and Hebrew that I know about. Nevertheless, the name comes up on this site in lists and very little else. I think the site was once used to sell a book but it...

    Memorial found in a skip

I had this notice today. It's for an Exhibition at Emmanuel Church, Wylde Green on the 10th of November. I'm told the memorial this has been about will be part of the exhibition. That's the one we started this thread for not the others mentioned.

    Memorial found in a skip

I'd wondered what happened to the Tindal Street memorial. The picture looks like it's been in someone's shed for a while.

    Memorial found in a skip

I don't know if or when we'll find out what the plaque really was but there do seem to be a lot of memorials that have either disappeared or wound up in inaccessible places.

    Brunswick Club, 464 Moseley Road

I vaguely remember there was an application to turn the old Brunswick club into a Strip club despite a lot of protests from the locals. It must have been opened as some kind of club because there was a shooting in there. That was probably what finally closed the place. Do you know if there was a...

    Memorial found in a skip

This morning I got an email from Rob Rolfe who started all of this. "As a result of the BBC coverage, I am now pretty certain of the origin of the plaque. I will have to do a lot of checking, and still have no idea how it came to us. I will be in touch." I have written back to ask what he's found.

There should be more than that, if only the Stones on Balsall Heath Road, but that's a fair view of the distribution for most of them.

    Memorial found in a skip

Probably a good idea to concentrate on that area, more than half of the names came from BH and another fifth from moseley. See the pdf with post 100 for detail. I doubt this would be a particular military barracks given the diversity of regiments they wound up in. It's probably not a school...

One other thing that came up today. The plaque measures 80 cm by 55 cm, or 32 inches by 22 inches.
