International played at Villa Park. England won 3 - 2 . Joe Mercer later managed Villa and lead them to victory in the inaugural League Cup in 1961. The opposing captain, Matt Busby didn't do too bad either as a manager !

70 years of Thomas (the Tank Engine)

I've never heard of "Sammy" before, quite a revelation. Strange illustration though, why is the cow kicking the lamb over the fence and why is the lamb smiling about it?

    Plush Nuggets

Plush Nougats were a favourite of my wife before we were married. I recall an incident in the Sheldon cinema when whilst trying to open the packet with one hand and my teeth (my other arm being around my wife's shoulder!) the packet split and the the people in the rows in front of them were...

    Write it down

A few weeks ago I unearthed a photograph of someone I didn't recognise at all. On the reverse written in pencil was written the dedication "To Edna with love from Win" and an address. My mom Edna had lived just a few doors away from this address. To cut a long story short after researching the...

You may find these equally fascinating. I don't know the location but it shows Reuben and a.n.other outside a building. The interior seems to be a fully equipped gymnasium. . Or was it their Barrack room? Judging by the pictures on the wall and the boxes at the end of the beds/benches it...

    G.H.Forman, Boot and Shoe dealer

You're quite right that the drawing is dated 1921. Perhaps the business no longer exists and the son is using surplus note paper for his drawings. Brummy lad it looks as though we had the same thought at the same time!

    G.H.Forman, Boot and Shoe dealer

Doing some Family Tree research I came across the following They are drawings said to be done by Harold, the son of the George Henry Forman, the Boot and Shoe dealer. Looking at the headed notepaper it's obviously from the 1910s (as per date line). Interesting to note that the address line...

Further to your post I too stumbled across a similar photograph whilst doing some family tree work. It's a very distant relative named Reuben Charles Haynes and was taken when he was serving with the Hampshire Regiment.

    40 Coldbath Road Kings Heath

Thanks to both pjmburns and Mohawk for the tip. Heres the picture I mentioned in post#9 The caption to it says "William's Index says it's the "Outside Billesley Hotel". This could be the Billesley Arms."

Thanks for you prompt reply, very good information. There is also a picture showing a family wedding at the Billesley Hotel which would have been handy for everyone from about the same era but I can't upload it as the file is too big and if I crop it it means cutting people out of the picture.
