    Queen Elizabeth II has died

Takes me back to the Coronation party in Paddington St. She has been a constant throughout my lifetime. I will miss her presence. Watched the funeral and shed tears as the lone piper departed. God Bless Her!! Dave A

    Old Maps of Birmingham

A not so old map of the City Centre showing places of interest. Not sure about the time frame, but it must have been in the 70's or 80's because I needed it to find my way around. Dave A

    High Street Aston

Here is a photo that I don't believe I've seen here previously. It captures the House That Jack Built & the Aston Hippodrome in the same view. Dave A

    fish and chip shops

While I feel that the fish and chips in the UK are not as good as they used to be, at least that's my experience of the past 20 years or so, quite the opposite has been the case here in Ontario, Canada. I don't think anything can compare to the greasy fish & chips I remember as a kid, however...

Brummies who moved to the USA

I know Beaufort, is that Bow or Bew? not far from Hilton Head and Savannah SC. Not a lot of crabbing on SSI, it's shrimp country...a great place to spend winter, not always warm but no snow... Dave A

Brummies who moved to the USA

Looks like we are about the same age...I left Brum in 1956 at age 16. I still cycle but it's not a Phillips. My daughter has a place in Fort Myers and we spent Christmas there. I took my bike for the first time and cycled every day while there. Being flat makes cycling a lot easier. I spend the...

    The English Language.

A fascinating topic...sometimes I see logic in changes to words in other English speaking countries. However, using a verb to describe a noun is not one of them. The TIRE vs. TYRE is the most common example, this makes no sense to me. Dave A

Indeed Lyn, I was very disappointed with the closing ceremonies...way too much dancing and so called dance music. I loved the opening ceremonies, made me proud, happy to say that, for me, Ozzie saved the closer. Dave A

I respectfully disagree about the use of oriented/orientated. I have never, up to this point in my life at 82, heard orientated used on this side of the pond, or pressurized (into doing something). Not saying it doesn't get said over here, just that I have never heard it. Dave Sr.

When I arrived in Canada I found the difference in use of words to be quite annoying. As far as I was concerned, English was English and everything else was wrong. I guess that sort of attitude is what leads to a stereotypical view of people from the UK. However, things quickly became normal and...

Something like American & English English...however, Quebec French is, for the most part, spelled the same as French French, but verbally very different. French people have a problem understanding Quebecois, but not the other way round. Dave A

Just watched the opening ceremonies! Made me feel proud! An excellent show and a great performance by Duran Duran, who I'm hoping to get to meet when they play in Toronto in August. My friend plays keys in the opening act CHIC, who you probably know, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Dave A

    Where was your first holiday?

Never went on holidays when I lived in Brum. School trips from MSA were the closest I came... Dave A
