And the picture is taken on the roof. Possibly unique among schools to have a flat roof. It was also used to host disagreements between students where you would put "the gloves on" Dave A

    Our childhood toys

When I emigrated to Canada in 1966, I came by the ship Empress of England. One of the on board features was a gigantic Escalado track that you bet on the horses. It was about 15-20 Ft long x about 3Ft wide. Dave A

    Tamworth field trainspotting

Certainly an element of British culture that is lost on people outside of the UK. I have lived in Canada for 57 years and many times I've tried to explain the joy of the 'Copp' to my friends here. Tamworth to Brummies was as much a pleasure as a trip to Crewe Sheds and works. I was mostly alone...

Brummies who moved to the USA

I was 26...I believe the pension requirements are based on the number of days you paid 'stamps'. On one of my many trips to the UK, I went to the local taxation office to check on my eligibility and they estimated my weekly income would be about 25 pounds. They did not indicate it would be a...

Brummies who moved to the USA

A problem for ex pats living in Canada is that if you are receiving a British pension, it is NOT indexed to the cost of living. I have a small pension of 25 quid a week that I have been receiving since I turned 65 in 2005. It still remains the same to this day...the weird thing is that if I...

    Paddington Street Aston

The Alders lived at #59. It states in the original post that Louisa Alder was living at #58 and died in 1949. Either the numbers are wrong because #58 was bombed out during the war, it became our peck. Maybe she moved somewhere else. Dave A

    Paddington Street Aston

Just found this photo. I believe this is Paddington St. You can see Bellingers shop behind her. There was an Alder family that lived next door to the shop. Dave A
