    Steam Locos

After moving to Crawley, Sussex in 1957, I was pleased to find that I lived close to Three Bridges Sheds. Never had much interest outside of LMS, however, I was very curious to see a number of Q1 loco's in the area. They are the ones built during the war as austerity locomotives designed by...

What do you watch on tv nowadays ?

I watch quite a lot of sport on the tv, mostly baseball & hockey at the moment...There are many times when I hit the mute button and listen to music on my Ipod, it's much preferable to listening to the jabbering of commentators telling you what you are seeing. Dave A

Gower Street Boys and Girls Schools

I did know that one, it was where we had our science classes. I am still puzzled as to what Banjo is referring to when he said the elusive view showing the school. Dave A

    Aerial photos of Birmingham

If it was taken in 1950, you were not born yet. I was 10 and still going to Cowper St school. I look at the photo and wonder about who took these pictures...it looks so congested and grey and not a tree in sight, but it was home and gave me a great start in life experience. Dave A

    Aerial photos of Birmingham

Great shot! Your red marker is about where the coal yard is/was, just down from the outdoor on the corner. If you follow Paddington St down, about 3/4 of the way on the other side, you can see the gap in the houses which is the peck. I lived just behind that. Dave A

    High Street Aston

No, you're not dreaming Bob...BHF has been going so long we tend to overlook the enormous amount of trivia and info available on earlier threads. Looking back I see the Baines shop I was referring to, was on the corner with Phillips St, which meant that the source of those delicious dripping...

    High Street Aston

What I think of when I see the picture is the fact that between Asylum Rd & Inkerman St, you could buy almost anything you needed. Our mom shopped mainly at the Co-op, which is where the bus stop is. Across the road was a bakery, Baines or Wimbush's I'm not sure...but that's where we got our...

    High Street Aston

I like the bus stop outside the co-op, NOT IN USE! On a more serious note...it really bothers me that I don't remember any of this going on. 1953 was a memorable year, what with the Coronation...passing my exam for the art school...our beloved cat Pip dying...and getting a new one from the...

    High Street Aston

Not sure if this has been posted earlier. It shows High St Aston looking from around Inkerman St to Asylum Rd. I do not remember this going on at the time, but it must have been related to the tearing up of the tram lines. It clearly shows Aston Brook. Dave A

    Paddington Street Aston

Nothing personal in it Lyn. If you lived on the street at an older age you would have been more aware of the divide between the so called 'top of the street' and 'our end'. It wasn't a firm division but I believe it would have been a general acceptance as to where that line was drawn. I don't...

    Paddington Street Aston

I would say that this picture could well be Paddington St. The Alders lived next door to Bellingers shop. They were #59. They had the only car on the street, a 1936 Wolseley reg# BOB 167, I'll never forget that...You say that Louisa was living at #58 in 1939...that house, & #56, got bombed...
