    Still had mills frag grenades in the early 60's, I remember them being quite heavy, glad that the dets/expl, were removed mate!!

    What a great generation, I remember my dad telling me of the jerry cans in Italy, he said he unloaded a wagon once at "battipaglia", about 1000 of them he said.!!

    No tips, in my working class neighbourhood Richard, you might get about 2/6 at Christmas time, for a whole round , about 60 houses. Though ironically enough, I did get a job at the Butchers on the castle square Weoley Castle, for about 6 months, which paid 25/- which was a lot then!!!

    It was the first one in Brum, I believe, it was on the RHS of the broadway, about half way along, I used to have the whole meal with bent frankfurter, and chips, and burger, without bun a tomato and some salad, with a frothy coffee, 6/- a fortune in that time, it was very colorful and bright...

    Hi Lyn, Picture #94, reminds me of the very early 60's, when I went every Saturday to the " Wimpy bar", in the broadway, it was very excotic to a 14yr old, thought I was in America!!

    The victorian gentleman's relief, based on the French, Paris , pissoir's, from a time when councils concentrated, on public works, for the betterment of society. They were not obsessed with, gender, leveling up, and diversity .!!

    Smashing pics Mark, I remember, Livery St Snow Hill Wall, and as a boy remember the trams, which ran down there, so you are possibly right about those fixings, great to see some of what I remember, from old Brum, so much has been lost!!!

    Those horse troughs were everywhere as a kid, together with standing water drinking fountains with copper jugs, chained to the stand, as copper cannot hold germs, long lost common placed items, from a distant childhood !!!!!

    Hi izzy, I remember the WOB, in Barns Hill, well mate, it had a faulty, rear door, where you could sneak in when you were under age for a film showing, saw Dracula, and Sat Night Sunday Morning, that way, but when about 6 or 7 lads, tried it once,got caught, they repaired it, about 1960/ 61 time!!

    All kids in the 50's, had this magical experience, every Saturday Morning, for 6d, another world, mine was the "Royalty " Harborne!! later the "Oak Cinema," selly Oak!!
