    Yes Stokkie, all the biker boys would go there first for a few, then to the Hen and chickens on the Wolverhampton Road, the party piece I remember most was rolling a penny uphill !. I've been gone a long time now and its over 60 years ago , so may be wrong!!

    What a shame!! so iconic, a great beacon from my youth, drank a few there in my time, and it was a marvel to behold, someone said it should have gone to the black country museum I agree!!!

    I am not completely sure , but I seem to remember it being built around 61/62 time, by "Wates," I think, an old girlfriend left school and worked there, Sandra Hancock.

    Looking at this photo reminds me, what we owed to those volunteers of all ages, and how many of those proud faces came back home again, to the country they had fought so hard for, not so many I believe!!!

    I was at the Birmetal's, when a helicopter landed but cannot remember the date, I have said befor that my dad ran the social club and we went to all the sports days and Christmas's and bonfire nights in the 50's, they also had a pantomime when Mr pastry came one year, it was a wonderful period...
