    Information about Welwyndale Road Sutton

Hello Bee Jay, I was sent an enquiry from our Local History Group as Welwyndale Road is considered to be 'my' end of Sutton. I have found that most of the information available on line is with regard to the Bomb Disposal Unit. I have several things deal with at the moment but I have added...

    Sutton Road

Thank you Pedro. Brilliant. I thought it looked like a chemists and this gives a really good picture of what there was in that block. Mom had a tweed suit from 'Laurette' before I was born so thinking of the photo it must have been much like this at that time. Just noticed the buildings between...

    Sutton Road

This image is a scan of a photocopy of a photo taken I believe late 50's/early 60's. I think it was probably done around the time that development was taking place at the Lyndhurst Estate as there are several taken of the original houses on that land which are similar. I' sure one of our vehicle...

    Presbytery Aston (Hall ?)

Sorry folks, I hadn't realised that the 'dot' on the map showing the location hadn't carried over from the internet! Also, my initial thought was that she was employed at the building as mentioned above.

    MY FIRST/SECOND GRANDCHILD

Lovely pictures Lyn. Those huge balloons always make me laugh. I had to drive up to Chester with one in the back of my little car. I thought I'd trapped it in a black bin bag but it escaped and floated in the way of my mirror! Time goes so quickly and we don't get to see our little ones enough.

We sat in a similar place when we visited the pool last year. Must look out the photo and see if it was the same bench!

    High Street Erdington

Thanks Pedrocut, that seems much more likely. Also, the flags would have been for Edward VII's coronation wouldn't they? August 1902 - so typical English summer weather. Good picture.

    St Paul's Square

Hi Efja_Joan, although no oral history to help you with, there are quite a few threads on this forum which mention St Pauls Square (I didn't put the ' in the search box) at the top right hand corner of the page. There may be something there or someone to contact. I worked in Cox Street in the...

    Erdington

This is a follow-on from my post #652 of 28th April 2022. I have finally got round to looking at the Bell & Cuckoo in Erdington. From a visit to Birmingham Archives I have discovered that the land was sold in 1866 and from reading 'Coaching City' by Howard Clayton (about Lichfield) the most...

    1911 census

One family I was tracing answered most questions differently to previous censuses and 'don't know' in the 'where born' column. I realised after a while that the parents were probably out and the children has answered the enumerator's questions.

I realise a magic wand may be needed with this one but can anyone enhance/sharpen this picture from a newspaper please?

    Sutton New Road Erdington

There's a really atmospheric picture at the bottom of the page(see above) of a tram in the rain outside the Picture House in High Street. Just before the trams were re-routed via Sutton New Road I imagine.
