What Happened To The Lake House In Boldmere

Welcome to the forum Raymond and Brian. There was quite a lot of interest in this property when it was first posted on the forum and worth a look at earlier posts if you haven't already done so. I was, and still am when time permits, researching the lake and the Greyhound pub in Court Lane.

    Lost Birmingham Pubs

Grea, Joseph McKenna's book 'Central Birmingham Pubs Vol II' gives the first pub on the north side at 4-5 Broad Street as The Royal Oak. He says it;s a little beerhouse with its yard backing onto the canal which once stood there. I've actually seen this picture before but can't find it today. I...

    Plans for Digbeth/Highgate area

We recently drove past the Custard Factory and what an experience that was! The roads are all dug up in preparation for the tramway. We got as far as Moor Street Station and then, due to the 'bus gate' we had to come back. Very difficult for people trying to catch a bus in Digbeth at the moment...

    Betholem Row

The Hebrew Congregation Cemetery at Witton is very well ordered and kept. The part in the Ridgeway appears to be full and there is an extension in Warren Road separated from the original site by College Road.

    Betholem Row

Lyn, I only came across it by accident some years ago but I'd like to know more about it too. I think that's why I love this forum, there's always something new to find out every day. Keeps 'the little grey cells' working!

You're very welcome Ladywoodite. It's a fascinating area and somewhere I'd like to know more about.

    Betholem Row

Lyn, I don't want to interfere but I think Betholem Row was the one in Edgbaston by the Jewish cemetery. There is a picture on the Birmingham Libraries website and the description is as follows: Date:1830 - 1890 (c.) Description:Betholom Row translates as "City of the dead". It was a...

Gravelly Hill - Slade Road / The Slade

Hi Deltics, You brought back memories for me with your post. Although my dad went to your school (long time before you) it's isn't that which jogged my memory. It was your mention of the 3 comics. Dad always went to the Greyhound in Court Lane on a Sunday morning and very often brought back...

    Sutton Park History

Amazing how many girls are wearing swimming caps oM. I remember mine so well. It didn't keep my hair dry, merely pulled my face uncomfortably to the sides and then squeaked and pulled my hair (which was very long) when I took it off leaving me with an all pervading smell of rubber. Not a success...

    'Little' Boldmere

Carliol, most of the postcards like this were printed at the beginning of the 20th century but I don't have a definite date.

    'Little' Boldmere

Much better Mike, thank you. The railings on the right hand side appear in the bottom left hand corner of the picture in Post #4.

    'Little' Boldmere

I 'ummed and 'aahd where to post this picture as although it's of very poor quality it does show properties on the right which I haven't seen before. I'd be grateful if any of our photo-wizards could work their magic please. There is a block of 1960's maisonettes there now and properties are...

    The Museum Sutton Coldfield

Thank you for those wonderful pictures Two. We were only saying this morning what a sad place Sutton parade is now. With BHS, M & S and Laura Ashley going, to name but a few, it feels like a ghost town. If only they'd had the sense to leave a few shops for independent retailers so that there was...

His mother and my mother best friends and worked together at Feasterstone Nursery Erdington which was attached to the grounds of the Orphans Cottage Homes which...

    London-Prentice St and Rope Walk

We've had cause to look at London Prentice Street just lately and I was really pleased to find these photos and this thread brought to the top. The family that we've been looking at lived there in the 1700's. possibly not long after the houses were built. Looking at the pictures these properties...

Club in Orphanage Road, Erdington 60s

We always called it Eric's - I think that was the name of the man who ran it. It was down a driveway to the right of the Conservative Club. We always went on a Friday night and I remember walking there and back home during the winter of 1962/3. Funnily enough I can't remember why we all stopped...
