    Moseley Grammar Secondary School

There was another well-attended open day at Spring Hill College aka Moseley Grammar aka Moseley School today .... and no scaffolding or railings around the old building.

    Hill Street

A good early view of Hill Street from the Navigation Street junction that I haven't seen posted before. It's tagged as 1879. It shows the Sampson and Lion pub, the Derby House pub on the corner of Swallow Street, and the Post Office on the corner of Paradise Street. The background skyline shows...

    Spring Grove laundry

Spent many hours watching works football matches (and playing by the Cole) on the playing field adjacent to the laundry during the 1960s. Here's an old photo of the interior, when it was called Mirror Laundry.

    Lower Temple Street

I assume the poster on the wall of the Shak(e)speare Inn opposite relates to this event.

    Steam Locos

Here's another view of steam from a similar camera position .... 5014 Goodrich Castle in 1961. This was my view when I used to train spot through the railings at Tyseley station in the early 1960's, when there was a signal box and more tracks.

Shakespeare Tavern - Lower Temple Street

Here's a photo of an early incarnation of the pub .... then called the Shakspeare Inn. The photo is tagged with a date of c1879. Mark Yates is shown in the 1861 census as a "Retail Brewer" in Temple Street.

    Dudley street

Here are a couple of interesting old views of Dudley Street that I've not seen before. They are dated as May 1867 and accredited to the Birmingham photographer Henry J Whitlock. They are both taken from the same part of the street .... the first looking towards Great Queen Street, the second...

Viv .... I think the view in Post #181 is from Highgate Park.

Berry Mound house in Swanshurst Lane

Drifting from the original topic, but .... I believe this is a photo of the house called Springfield in Springfield Road Moseley in 1911. It was then occupied by William Allday. Correction: The photo shows a different house named "Springfield" .... nearby on Yardley Wood Road.

    Formans Road Sparkhill.

My mom was a customer of the wool shop in Formans Road in the 1950s and 1960s. She knitted all the time when she wasn't working .... producing jumpers etc for herself, my brother and me. I often went into the shop with her, and was sent to pick up extra rolls when she ran out of wool. I knew all...

An earlier occupant of the Board Inn site at 101 High Street.

    Formans Road Sparkhill

In Tom Golding's book "96 Years A Brummie" he mentions the Wilders fireworks factory by the River Cole on the south side of Formans Road. His mother and aunt worked there. Apparently two women workers were burned to death in a "powder room" at that time.

    Camp Hill

I don't think this fine old view of Camp Hill has been posted on this thread previously. It's a Samuel Lines sketch dated October 1823, just after Holy Trinity Church was built. I believe it shows the old Ship Inn on the right.

    Formans Road Sparkhill

That sounds credible Mike .... possibly linked to the Wilders fireworks factory in Greet. FYI the map I posted is also an OS map (from the NLS site).

    Formans Road Sparkhill

Interesting to see on the attached c1887 map that an area adjacent to Formans Road is annotated "Magazines". I assume this means storage for explosives/ammunition .... maybe used in extracting materials for the nearby Burbury Brickworks ?

    Dale End

Karen I assume 104 Dale End is the shop on the left next to No 105 which I believe was the old Scout Shop. This photo is tagged with a date of 1961.

Nadeem .... Here are a couple of aerial photos of the top of Formans Road (Credit: britainfromabove.org.uk). I assume you've also seen the other thread on this site "Formans Rd Sparkhill" that has discussion about different parts of the road ? 1920: 1950:
