    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Finishing off Roll 34 we have a very old image of the Town Hall, love all the lamps with their glass globes cannot imagine they would last 5 minutes these days. Lady and gent crossing the road in the fashions of the day. Note also the buildings at the left hand end of the Town Hall, long gone of...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

For the next image we move to the City centre and in front of the council house to be precise, an intriguing and interesting picture which shows the many changes that this location has gone through. Colmore Row goes off into the distance and we can see the existing building with the clock face...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This final image, still under the "School in Saltley , Belchers Lane" banner seems to predate the previous ones , the site and everything around it looks new, fences, walls, pillars, it looks as if it had not been used. Love the lampost and if you look at the main school building those...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

next at School in Saltley , Belchers Lane this shows more easily the variety of building on the site from the single and two story school " block" brick built buildings to the huts and building with flat roofs some with pitched roofs and the classic black school huts which I have seen on other...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

sorry Vivienne nothing more to add although the pixilation of the image would appear to make it a newspaper picture - and a picture of a picture or calendar or book are nothing new !!

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The next three images are all described as School in Saltley , Belchers Lane , which while accurate does not add much to the mix. The first image gives an idea of the scale of the site with a large school building at the front with an equally large playing field at the back. Note also the large...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The next image I have trouble identifying as my list is not upto it - it could be old house in New John Street?, what brings it to life are the group of children on the street corner, total lack of traffic, and the large building on the corner which has two windows a large entrance and then two...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

well that was a quick roll to go through and shows how many duplicated there were. Last one on the roll and for tonight , we have good old Moor Street Station, with West Midland Passenger Transport logo under the BR sign. Quiet road out front and two of the modern style telephone boxes on the...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

apologies if the description is wrong - I am told this is the Albion in Sheepcote Street, tiny building but with the M & B lamp out the front, surrounded by industry and I assume a pub that is no longer there. Note the building on the left with the corrugated iron on the windows

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we have St Pauls Tavern, I have posted an image of this pub but from the other direction, bit of a distant view but shows how it fitted into the street scene, much changed around there and now the area to be seen - if only by the youngsters!!

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Unfortunately we are peering around a lamppost with a Ford Cortina on the street, we have the Gunmakers Arms Bath Street, now a Two Towers pub, bit different from the olden M & B days. The exterior view hasn't changed and the only difference on the street is again the meters as we are now pay...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Trying again with the Queens Arms Newhall Street, no date I am afraid and not much to see on the street apart for the meters so I assume this is a Sunday. Love the large M & B sign and name on the corner of the building too

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Sorry for my absence - been no where but sometimes time takes over. We have moved on to Roll 33 , which is a bit of a hit and miss roll - and in most cases miss. If you have just viewed this and the picture has disappeared don't worry it was a duplicate and I found it the second I posted it

apologies for going " off piste" I noticed a mention about the Dudley canal tunnel in this thread , last week I went for a walk from Brierley Hill waterfront to the canal tunnel mouth , plenty of industrial archeology remaining , here are a few pictures at Blowers Green of the pump house...
