    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We now move to The Bulls Head, Summer Lane and New Summer Street taken in 1968, totally unrecognisable today, fine Ansells signage , house up New Summer Street, intersting to see the upper floor windows are bricked up - who is going to get up there to get in?

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next is a rather forlorn image of what used to be the Holy Bush, Frankfort Street and Gee Street, my notes state that the pub had gone before 1928. I have no year, but as you can see all the properties are boarded up , and the windows upstairs seems to be broken. You can just make out the Street...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This next image has lot of questions to it , titled Old bomb site was site of a pub off Suffolk Street, why were they taking a picture from what looks like a upper floor of a bombed out building and where is the ornate brickwork to the right from? I might as well add - why was this brickwork on...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Another that may be a repeat (I cannot get the hang of searching for an image ) is taken in 1929, and is "old yard" back of New John Street West, selection of families gathered around the lamppost in the centre of the yard among the washing - the men standing to one side women and children to...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

As we can see this is Geach Arms , corner of Summer Lane and Geach Street, full of interest, selection of cars off down the road to the left, cyclist on the corner and a small person siting on the steps of the pub. The pub itself has a selection of fine chimneys and its interesting that the...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next we have a few pubs - my list tells me this is the Birmingham Arms corner of Hampton Street and St. George Street, looks an atmospheric picture with the two gentlemen making their way home on the right. Not much else to add to the comentary as the detail in the background is rather lacking...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Now this may be a duplicate - site of the Ansells at Aston Cross, Lichfield Road , love the car out the front and to the extreme left the BP sign, and also the design of the street light.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We now move onto Roll 4 first in a random selection of photos of photos was The Rock Cinema, taken in 1967, rather a " gritty " image - it may turn up on a later roll with a better image . EDIT: Duplicate of #753

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The last image on this roll or so my information says is linked to the previous photograph and is described as " Old print of the Old Gate at Saltley back in 1890 and of the bar" so I assume this is the bar of the Old Gate (?) again apologies for the quality of the picture and the wholes across...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

These last two may or may not be linked- first is The Old Gate Saltley in 1890 , at least the location is correct as we can see the gate on the front of the building, love all the clothes of the day - plenty of top hats and the occasional full dress of a lady - apologies for the quality of the...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Next I have this imposing building but no idea of where it is, some of the notes may suggest it is in Saltey but that is a long shot. Seems to have prams outside the left hand entrance and the figure in the centre seems to have a long gown on. Any offers?

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Roll 3 and again duplicates, poor images and no descriptions . One picture that I do have information on is apparently Mr Harrison outside his shop on Lozells Road, not sure if the description or location is correct but as usual no year

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Last one on this roll ( said it was disappointing) and may also be a duplicate - this is the Brewer and Baker - unfortunately my list has no mention of this but I am sure you will easily identify it. Looking rather worse for wear but looking like it is been refurbished from the left hand end...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Slightly wider shot giving a view of the road and the building to the right - metal windowed factory building over three storeys so I assume rather a large manufacturing site. The wider view allows us to see the sash windows of former pub - not much else to add .
