    Dunlop Building

Yes - approximately. The club closed because (allegedly) it needed a 6-figure sum spent to re-roof it. Dunlop Hall was shut earlier when asbestos was found in it I think. Early-mid 1990s. Pictures of the computer annexe above are from just before it was demolished - we had already moved down to...

    Dunlop Building

It also involved a man on one of those little digger things with a kango-hammer end bit - he was left right on the end of the remaining bit of floor. Do wish I had had my camera with me that day.................. This was the computer annexe building by the way - taken after Commercial Offices...

    Dunlop Building

Correct. When I started in the 80's the mainframe, data prep and buying dept were on the ground floor - upper floors were empty. At the far end was the workshop where you could get a new set of "test tyres" fitted for the cost of logging your mileage each week. The only time I ever went upstairs...

    Snow Hill Station

I was originally planning to photograph both sides (Livery St / Constitution Hill) of the siding walls, and also underneath the arches (cue the song.....). However - lack of time, vile weather and the fact that the arches down by the Lionel St end contained some VERY undesirable-looking...

    Dunlop Building

Hi Richard; Tyres now being made in low cost countries (China, Eastern Europe, Asia, etc). Like everything else. It is cheaper to make it in China and ship it half way round the world. Make them here and they are too expensive and no-one will buy them. The good folks of America are about to...

    Snow Hill Station

It is where, as Eric Morecambe would have said, a gentleman would go to "Irrigate the Desert".........;)

    Snow Hill Station

Went and had a look at the retaining wall of the Snow Hill sidings on Livery St yesterday - still plenty of evidence of its "old age":- Also got a better look at what I believe (please correct me if I am wrong!!!) are tram overhead line "accessories":-

Sign still extant yesterday on the building opposite:-

    Dunlop Building

Production was transferred to other European countries as (allegedly) it was easier to close factories in the UK than anywhere else, post Scargill/Thatcher. However the Grim Reaper is now reaching out to Europe too as 2 Goodyear plants in Germany will close soon. Motorsport was doomed from the...

Don't think my 150-600mm lens is powerful enough for that! ;)

    From Our Gardens 2025

It does not have to be dark to photograph the moon - this was taken about 6pm yesterday in broad daylight:- Loads of crater detail visible around the terminator if you tilt it over a bit:- For comparison - this was taken about 9.30 last night:-

    Birmingham City Hospital officially closes

They are there Lyn under City Hospital - you have to hunt for them - for example:- You will struggle to get on the site as demolition is now underway, so they can play the H&S card to keep you off!

    Hockley GWR Station

Update - site is now tarmac'd and awaiting planning permission for a Costa Coffee and (!!!) laundrette......

    Birmingham City Hospital officially closes

Finally got to take a few photos of Dudley Rd (aka City) Hospital yesterday. All from outside and taken over the tops of fences I'm afraid as my days of climbing into fenced off sites are long gone..... Bulldozers were already ripping the end off A&E so if you want a last look go sooner rather...

    Windmill pub Dudley Road

For info - it was still there yesterday.....

    Sutton Coldfield

Lovely repro poster now installed at the bottom of the ramp at Sutton Station:- Its a better depiction of the park than this 1928 LMS poster which puts the park somewhere between Hogwarts and Toytown.......

    The Railways

Got some photos of the new HS2 viaduct from the train earlier on today - this one IS a big bugger......

I don't know but the B&W's were taken around 45 years ago - have you only just missed it? ;)

    Sutton Coldfield

But if you hunt around remnants of the past can still be found - wooden sleepers on the bay platform buffer stop:- Remnants of the old trackwork still remain:- Broken wooden sleeper on the bay platform line:- Platform 2 & 3 buildings are wonderfully preserved:- Metal plates on...
