Growing Up In Brum - Roy Blakey Inspired.

My Father was a great believer in slack for the fire in the living room. He often worked an evening shift for the Midlands Electricity Board as a Switching Engineer and before he left the house he would mix up some slack and build up the fire. It was always a good fire if you had slack. We had...

Hopefully, this is the place since I recall there were some meeting rooms in Harrison Road at one time...

    Help identifying old school badges

The badge with "Hold Fast" and the symbol may have been given out at Sunday School. In biblical terms "Hold Fast" means if you are a Christian hold on to your faith. Several references in the Bible. I have seen the symbol somewhere but am not sure where. I taught Sunday school for a few years.

    Brantley Road, Witton

My Mother was born in Brantley Road at No.35 and lived there until she married in 1935. This is going back a long way since she was born in 1908. She attended Deykin Avenue School. She used to go to the shops in Tame Road quite often for many years after she left. The street hasn't changed...

Lives Of The First World War - Remember Your Relative

Hi Dave: I can forward the details to John Colin and I am sure he will add your great Uncle to the list. Also, Brenda you can send the info. My Uncle isn't on the list. It was difficult for John to find everyone and I am amazed at how many names he managed to find.

Lives Of The First World War - Remember Your Relative

Managed to get this list posted. Not sure why in a couple of sections the names came on in lower case as on the original Excel file they are all in caps. There is no guarantee that every soldier from the areas mentioned made it on to this list. My Uncle William's name isn't on there but that's...
