Mother's Club Carlton Club Ballroom Erdington

I wonder how many businesses have operated in the two retail spaces below where Mother's was. The location was great inasmuch it was in an area where there weren't many houses really close by although there were a few in adjoining streets York Road being one of them. Erdington Parish...

    Coffee Bars:

Hi Sparkstopper: You are so right about the coffee bars being "quite essential to the youth of the late 1940's and 1950's". After WW2 it took quite a long time before different types of entertainment clubs and cafes came to Brum. I was in my late teens in l959 but not able to officially drink...

    Old street pics..

Thanks for posting this great photo Viv. I have many memories of the restaurant at the Arden in 1972 when I spent five months in Brum. I used to go with my parents and the meals were always very good. Can't say I ever noticed the add on extension on the top of the building.

Brummie Children Trip To The Sea, With Views Of Brum

Thanks for posting those pics Viv. The food at the Kam Ling was excellent back in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Snowhill Station, it's huge entrance and interesting platforms bring back many memories. Wasn't there a "Speaking scale" in the entrance at Snow Hill? Many people used to meet...

Brummie Children Trip To The Sea, With Views Of Brum

Wonderful film indeed. Have watched it three times to catch all the special shots. Viv has mentioned most of them. I saw the Kam Ling Chinese Restaurant opposite the Livery Street entrance where the children filed in to go to Platform 7; place of departure for my own childhood holidays. I loved...

    Barr Beacon

It would be great if the Barr Beacon Park was part of the"Adopt-a-Street" scheme in some way. I noticed this scheme was very big in the USA for years and now it has come to Canada and I noticed the other day that a busy main street close by has become adopted by locals. Sadly, it seems that the...
