    Chelmsley Wood Pubs

Hi, There were old paths which linked between the Chester Road and the Roman temple which was as far as I know situated on or near Grimstock Hill Coleshill. We certainly found a few Roman coins and brooches on local footpaths and fields facing C.W. Areas 10 and 11. This was many decades ago...

    Dudley Diary

Hi, Well, what a coincidence. Although I lived in Birmingham for 67 years before returning to East Anglia in 2017, I was born and lived in Southwold until I was 7 , - two roads away from St Edmunds Road. I wonder if Sister Langford was connected with the Sacred Heart RC Church in Wymering...

    Metropolitan Cammel sportsground

Hi Viv, It was also the company Sports and Social Club. The accomodation at one end of the building was for the Groundsman, and at the other end was for the Club Steward. Looking at the building from the road, the house on the left side was the Steward's, and the Groundsman's was at the other...

    Just found

Hi, I know Birmingham 33 was created in the 1950s, because when we moved to Stechford in 1950 it was still Birmingham 9 for just a few years. So I guess this was probably when South Yardley became very much smaller and Kitts Green, Tile Cross and Lea Hall became B33 with Stechford...

    Just found

Hi Kevrina, That's a weird address. Lea Hall Road is neither in South Yardley or Birmingham 26, it is in Birmingham 33, Kitts Green, Stechford, Lea Hall etc, and South Yardley is Birmingham 25. BUT, is the picture that old that the districts may have changed? Any idea of the age of the photo...

    The numbering of court houses

Hi, I lived at 8 back 67 (8/67) Tilton Road in the 1960s. It was often referred to including on our rent book as 8/69, as the 2 houses alongside the entrance to the court were 67 and 69, but there was only one sequence of numbers in the court. Kind regards Dave

    Singer Factory Small Heath

Hi, That picture brings back an amusing memory. I was walking past at knocking off time, and there was a security man at the gate with a watch in his hand and the other hand raised in the air. The workers were lined up as if on starting blocks, and as he dropped his hand they all dashed out of...

    Steam Locos

Hi Spargone, Many thanks for info. I was pretty certain it had to be platform 3 as there was no through line between platform. 1 and 2. As the last time I used New St Station was in the early 60s, I remember the WH Smith booth where you could cross between platforms 1 +2 and 1A +2A. Not...
