    Aston church war graves.

I have photographed hundreds of war graves in my area and I can honestly say I've never seen CWGC headstones in such a disgraceful state. Somebody has dropped the ball there. You shouldn't have to clean those memorials rossclr but you deserve a round of applause for what you're doing.

Thanks Chris. I think I'll forget my name before I forget my army number !

Chris, a quick question if I may. Did Home Guard personnel have a personal number ?

    Home Guard

You could explain. (Another "waap!" is in the offing, Private Pike).

    Home Guard

Yes Chris, I identified the location of a photo of my Dad's AA Regt, taken at the Maypole.

    Home Guard

Yes, I sent off for, and got my Dad's for Our Mom.

What's a "Born and bred Brummie" doing, posting in Welsh, I have to ask ?

    Disgusting food

I second the earlier comments on liver. I'd like to up the ante and sing the praises of liver and bacon. The last time I had kidneys I was in the army The ones I had then stank of wee, the charmer who'd done the meal hadn't bothered to wash them, haven't tried them since !

what is going on here ???

All in the same hand, written by someone who knows his languages, even Greek. (And Latin if you include "Ubique"). That looks like actions of a bunch of bored squaddies at the beginning of the "Phoney War".

    Coalmen

I remember, in the 40s, domestic coal was really poor stuff, my Dad reckoned it was more slate than anything else. Every so often there would be an explosion in the fire and fragments would whiz across the front room. We kids thought it was great but looking back, it was downright dangerous.

WW1 photos of our relatives in uniform

These blokes were so proud of their horses. Across all the many books I've read about the Great War, the overriding sorrow that the soldiers had was for the dreadful things that happened to the poor animals that were caught up in the slaughter.

What a pity other units of the HG didn't produce similar publications. I'd love to know more of my Dad's experience.

Memories : Essence Of The 50s And 60s

'ang about ! I remember the name Harvey Andrews. Didn't he upset the establishment, back in the 70s, by writing a song supporting the squaddies in Ulster ? (Sorry to go off thread, the name jumped out at me).

A 'brummie' accent will hold you back in life.

Classic South Brum accent ! When my eldest was little, when that record came on the radio, he was convinced that the controller's voice was his Uncle Derek.

    Our childhood toys

I knew a Welsh kid, way back, who told us that his Gran could play the national anthem on her anal sphinctre. He got quite indignant when we laughed !

    Our childhood toys

I had a hell of a job playing the comb and paper, it tickled my lips too much.

In the early 60s we had a new RSM who hated bull, (unbelievable but true !). One of the first things he did was make the regiment blacken their webbing. It was a hell of a job first time but after that it was so much easier than Blanco. My point is, though, for the sake of uniformity, the whole...

Being ex-army I can't help but notice that there seems to be different shades of Blanco on the gaiters of the men in the photo. Given that the officers will have had their own colour, some of the Other Ranks look like they used black polish. Unusual, seeing that they're all from the same unit.

What do you watch on tv nowadays ?

I second the watchability of Miss Daisy's hotpants but wasn't she in "The Dukes of Hazard" old chap ?

Yes, I watched that too. As an ex- Boy Soldier myself, I thought it was hilarious !
