I am 82 so I understand, as do many what you say about naive teenagers, we thought we knew so much at that time of our life. It was what we didn’t know was the problem.

    Dunlop Building

I did Google Captain Dunsel, I like that and know more than a few that fall into that category! Unfortunately I have been apart to a number of plant closures, some to right to work states and others because of customer shifts and/or changes in technology. An example would be a plant making...

Absolutely correct! The rods were usually placed between floor joists.

Oh my goodness, chemistry! As a part of my BSMe in the US, I had to take 6 credits or 2 classes, I was scared to death, I wasn’t very good at it although in the real world I did get to understand. I passed both classes, an A & B. Hats off to those chemistry folks, far better than I!

Usually the metal plates are tied together with a steel rod. If/when the walls buckle as Mike suggests, heat the rod which expands then they tighten the nuts. When the rod cools it contracts and pulls the wall in.

    Laptop Memory Upgrade

My Lenovo is like that........when I was buying it the fellow advised if I thought I might need more to upgrade. The upgrade was on sale, so I got more memory for the same money. One of the few times I actually came out ahead, usually it's the other way :) , far better than buying an new one.

Yes, now they have the “donut” unless you pay extra! And most never use the 5th tire! In the US we have seen quality durability problems with Chinese branded tires. Continued long distances at high speeds tend to destroy those tires with marginal quality.

    Laptop Memory Upgrade

If you think want to add memory you might want to check with your local computer shop or manufacturer, many newer computers (which you seem to have running 11) inhibit the addition of memory.

Thank you for that. However there are more and more cars on the roads and last I looked there were 4 tires per car, who is making those tires? BTW, the Margret Thatcher thing was over 40 years ago, almost half a century ago.

    Park Lane...Aston

Just seeing this, I joined in 2015. My uncle George lived on Park Lane and Uncle Bill lived on Park Road (or maybe the other way around :)), they were brothers and we seemed to go there a lot.

    Writings of member Barr_Beacon

It is Sunday morning in Franklin TN and I am reading your most recent note. For some reason it has triggered so many memories/emotions of my growing up, my work experience/education and retirement. Not sure why, but that is OK, great pieces of Birmingham history are exposed in your posts.
