    Overton Place

Also Moorcroft Place Lynn, but i think that is recorded as Great Brook Street. I don't think you could ever lose the plot Lynn.

    Overton Place

Yes Janice, I did think they looked rather upmarket for the 1930s.

    Overton Place

On the 1939 register the barracks have been built on and Overton Place is the new one. A surname for Annette's father could confirm for definite.

Viv, this aerial view from 1937 shows the area you have marked with purple dots, I don't know if it helps.

    Birmingham?

I spotted this house on the original photo which shows there was a street running off to the right (as already suggested) could these be the buildings on the photo? could what we think is a factory roof be the original Birmingham City Football stadium? I have little knowledge of this area so...

Amazing that the lamppost has survived (or had done until 2008). Well spotted Tinpot

This has become a thread like ‘location wanted for this bus if possible’ a very long thread from 2019. Just as interesting as that thread too.

    Birmingham?

This is a link to a 1937 aerial view of Grange Road and surrounding streets (Grange Cinema is marked), it is pretty good quality but I can't find the buildings we are looking for, I assume that the industrial building had yet to be built but there is the one in Hawkes Street. Perhaps someone...

Good point Banjo, I thought it looked like a road or dirt track but didn’t twig the lamppost was facing in that direction.

    Birmingham?

I don’t know if it has already been spotted but photo 1 above has a swan necked lamppost as in the original photo.

These roofs on Sampson Road West have a similar pattern but aren't what we are looking for unfortunately.

    Birmingham?

The satellite view of the tram depot (I think the roof is original) seems to indicate that the formation of the skylights does not match.

A 1950s map of Hawkes Street. Could it be Atlantic Works?

    Birmingham?

This is an aerial view of Hawkes Street from 1937. The building shown is a possible contender but unfortunately insufficient detail.

    Birmingham?

We had a similar query a few months ago for an unknown location, that also had a building with a similar pattern of skylights. That location was never pinned down, hopefully we’ll have better luck with this one.

    Birmingham?

I also thought it was a railway bridge but I am now convinced that it is a roof of a factory, the pattern is formed by the skylights in the roof.

I agree, the perspective of the houses (particularly on the left hand side), is spot on. A remarkable bit of detective work MickyMoo.
