    Service record unavailable

I met someone who had been a volunteer (though he hadn't volunteered) for something like this. He was doing National Service and he and others were put in a room and some kind of gas was released.

    Service record unavailable

That did occur to me. It would explain why he didn't talk about the war, I suppose. Anyway, I'll pass all this on.

    Service record unavailable

That's interesting steve, and similar to my friend's experience. He had to make a FOI request - and it took ages. Thanks, both of you. I'll let my friend know what you've said.

    Service record unavailable

It is strange, lyn, and I thought it would be straightforward. Apparently the record contains some medical information, so it's a question of medical confidentiality. But surely lots of soldiers needed medical treatment, either for wounds or things like having their appendix removed, so in that...

    Service record unavailable

He applied to the MOD, lyn. Unfortunately he doesn't know the dates. His father was reluctant to talk about the war.

    Service record unavailable

A friend applied for his father's army service record, and after a very long time was told that because of certain information it contains, the record can't be released until well into the next decade. He knows that his father was in Italy and North Africa but would like to know details like...

    Lewis's Department Store

    Yes, horrific.

    Lewis's Department Store

I found some information about the production on the website theatricalia.com. It was a touring production, and the acrobatic trio was Helen Howell, Harger and Mario Naldi. The dancers were Mr Wylie's chorus girls. Here Comes the Bride The lead role of Robert Sinclair was taken over almost...

Yes, I remember them! Often seen on stations as well. Now, they are a bit differently designes.

    Crossroads programme

There's a nice reference to Crossroads in the episode of Endeavour (ITVX) Passenger, set in 1968. The writer, Russell Lewis, is very fond of throwing in references to popular culture. A small part of the action takes place at the Crossroads Motel in KIngs Oak. The receptionist looked quite...

    Greys Department Store

    I didn't realise that.

The shop had its own nurse? That's really interesting.

    Small Heath Park (Victoria Park)

I didn't go there Paul, but the little park sounds idyllic.

    Small Heath Park (Victoria Park)

I used to be taken there to feed the ducks.

    Lewis's Department Store

I can visualise the jewellery department, where I bought a pair of Corocraft clip-on ear rings. I have had a look online and have found Ranella china and some items of clothing, but no jewellery. There is stuff on eBay.

    Rackhams Store

I once bought a leotard from there, and a bottle of Guerlain eau de toilette (It was £10, which shows how long ago it was!) Also sometimes used to buy tea from the Food Hall, but nothing else that I can remember, as it was an expensive place. But yes, walking through was a very nice experience...

It sounds awful! And remembering what Rackhams used to be like...

    Crossroads programme

Not quite Celia Johnson, but going in that direction. It was partly the way she pronounced the 'h' in words like 'what.' I thought I spotted Susan Hansen in the last scene, so checked and she was there, also Tony Adams, who I didn't spot.

    Crossroads programme

Definitely posher than they were! I didn't know she was from the East End (or so she says in the 'Nolly' script).

    Crossroads programme

Has anyone seen the series? I've seen the first two episodes, and it's quite fun. Helena B-C seems less posh than I remember Miss Gordon being, but the sets seem very authentic recreations.
