    Bette & Joan

We've also been watching it and found it very entertaining. (They were two of my father's favourite actresses). I've been reading a bit about Joan Crawford, who was very troubled and contradictory, even more so than is shown in the series, perhaps. We also recorded the film, but haven't seen it...

    Billy Bouncer books

Thanks! It's strange how things stick in your mind. I haven't been able to find out anything about Leslie M. Oyler.

    Sweets We Used To Have

I can't remember exactly what they were like, but I did like them!

    Sweets We Used To Have

Anyone remember something called Coffee Crisp? I googled it, and apparently it's made in Canada, and not available here. Is it the same thing? I'm not sure. It seems to be a wafery type of thing. Also there was Bliss, which was nuts in a kind of marshmallow covered in chocolate, and Nux, which...

    Sweets We Used To Have

Fry's Five Centres, I think, which I used to like. You can get get some of these old-fashioned sweets from places online. (I bought some white chocolate mice - they were horrible!)

    Garrison Lane Pubs

It is a good photo. I lived in Witton Street, and it was part of my "landscape." It's weird to think of it having a boxing ring. The little shop next door was Rene's when I lived there, and I think later it became a small supermarket. The bus stop was just outside.

    Billy Bouncer books

A relative who was a child in the 1930s had one of these Billy Bouncer books, I think not this one, though am not sure. Decades later I read it, and remember a story where Billy and his companions had an adventure that involved a golden box that looked like a jewelled Bath bun. I wondered if...

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

So we won't see him in Parliament, which would be fun.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

My husband said they looked like boots. They seemed to be black! Partridges do seem likely. Often used to go to Packwood House, well, I went several times in the past. I think I remember a large hall with a sort of split staircase, one branch coming down either side. And of course the topiary.

What was Tommy cooking over the fire? A brace of pigeons?

This photo of Lewis's in 1970 was on Twitter today.

    The Longboat, Cambrian Wharf

Also used to go there quite a bit in the '70s. My friend Angela was fond of a drink called a vodkatini, which another friend used to say was like herbal shampoo!

I approve of whoever added that tiny detail - the costume designer, I suppose.

He's hilarious. Did you spot Tommy almost laughing in the scene between them in the distillery? My husband has just been running it again.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

When Jessie took her coat off in the pub (episode 4) I thought I saw a dress shield in her cardigan. If so, it was a tiny authentic detail, but did anyone else see it? I wonder which pub they went to. I don't know if the Richmond was there in the 1920s!

    Lewis's Department Store

And those large round loaves of soda bread they used to sell (Scofa Scone??). They were sold a quarter at a time.
