Back In Time For The Corner Shop (BBC)

It must have taken for ever to make ice cream! I didn't realise (though probably should have) that there was training available in the 1920s for people running shops.

Back In Time For The Corner Shop (BBC)

Anyone watching this? It's the usual structure, a family travels through time, on this occasion running a corner shop in Sheffield. I don't think we really had a corner shop, though perhaps I just can't remember.

    Sweets We Used To Have

There was mention of banana split toffees earlier. Marks and Spencer have bags of assorted toffees in ice cream sundae flavours, and banana split is one of them.

    Disgusting food

That comes into a novel by A.S.Byatt, the word pobs, which I'd never heard. Her family was from the north, I think.

    Lewis's Department Store

There was something really special about Lewis's. The other day there as a programme about how High Streets are dying, and what people are trying to do about it. It's so sad. House of Fraser in Reading, near where I live, is getting a bowling alley!!

    Crossroads programme

A friend who is a morris dancer once had to teach Paul Henry and others at the Rep some morris steps for a play. It was some time ago.

    The Newcomers

Also skipped through! I didn't know that Megs Jenkins and Jeremy Bulloch (Bob Cherry in the Billy Bunter series) were in it. It was interesting to see.

    The Newcomers

I will watch later, Maurice. I think there was a young boy and a grandmother (Gladys Henson?) I was once on the same bus as her, and she looked awfully bad-tempered!

    The Newcomers

My memories of The Newcomers are very vague. I think Gladys Henson was in it?

    Old street pics..

This was on Twitter, posted by Birmingham Museum Images. It's Bordesley Green with the tram going to High Street. My husband thinks the roads to either side are Blake Lane and Churchill Road.
