    Rednal House

No. Oratory house is nearer the Lickeys. Years ago I had a friend whose parents were caretakers at Oratory House so have had a good look around! Yes Cardinal Newman is buried there. Sorry not a good map but Oratory House bottom left. Rednal House top right.

    Where is this 13

I am pretty certain that Phil was talking about The Rose and Crown, Rednal, not Rose and Crown, Rubery

    Birmingham boxers

Thanks for that, any mention of his younger brother, Alan? Not sure if he became professional.

    Birmingham boxers

Never a fan of the boxing scene but I knew Johnny on his way up in 1950's and I worked in Tanworth and knew the Bell where Jack Hood had been the gaffer but I thought he had retired by then the 1960's. To complete my total knowledge of boxing such as it is I went to school with Cartwright...

    Hardy Spicers Ltd

Didn't realise that Larry Joyce transferred to Birfield, worked with him at Chester Rd. 1970-1975. Wasn't there also a husband/wife in Production Control surname Beddows? Maybe Stuart? Welcome to BHF!

    Slab cake

I had a Saturday job while at school (1950's) with the local Scribbans bread man, we often had precut individual slices of cherry genoa cake wrapped in cellophane available to sell.

    Slab cake

I associate the name Scribban's-Kemp with slab cake, their cherry genoa was delicious. https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Scribbans_and_Co

    Blundells of Aston

Near the "Vine" on Green Lane Small Heath the cinema was turned into a cash and carry shop, was that a Blundell's? May be not. S&U was on Egbaston St. opposite the Midland Red bus station. In 1980's I would occasionally see a childhood hero, Gil Merrick, who at this time worked for S&U, didn't...

    Bull Ring 1960s - 1980s

I had a friend in those days who could interpret engineering drawings into artists impressions with perspective views. No doubt a talent made obsolete by technology!

    Coventry Road South Yardley

That car park was really tight, in early 1960's I had a 1930's Wolseley NF and I always had to back up a couple of times to get around each of the turns.

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Very familiar, bus coming towards us is in John Bright St. The road to the left of "Newnes" is Suffolk St. The photographer would have been in what is now Holloway Circus,

    House interiors

I realise that it is probably a result of the soaring cost of gas and electricity but has anyone else noticed the smell of wood/coalfire smoke, not sure which, around housing estates these days. Is it legal? It almost certainly not "green"

    The shrinking bus network

I feel I may have said this before. We are fortunate to have a excellent bus timetable and I have a senior's bus pass so why wouldn't I use the bus BUT buses can't be relied on to show up, shortage of drivers, aborted journeys because of traffic hold-ups so you can finish up late or in this...

THE WINTERS OF 47 AND 63

I am old enough to remember both, in 47 I was at infants school, our classroom was separate from the main school which was a bonus as it had a coke burner so coats could be dried by piling on the fireguard, schools didn't close as most, including teachers lived locally and we could and did walk...

    Kings Hall Market

I never went to Kings Hall Market but it was on Corporation St. opposite to The Old Square. Knocked down to build Inner Ring Rd. so would have been early 1960's Found this picture on Facebook.
