    Birmingham Cinemas

I remember seeing the 'Sound of Music' at the Gaumont as a 10 year old ( didn't everyone! ?) going there for me was a real event. Then taking my new wife who was from a small town in Devon to see 'The Omen' there in 1976. she was gobsmacked!

Birmingham (or very close by) pubs that you would have liked to visit.

I'd love to have had a few drinks with my grandfather in his favourite boozers, The Norton or The Lad in the Lane.

    Birmingham Cinemas

Thanks for posting this Pete. My father was a Cinema projectionist (his occupation on my birth cert 1956) although I don't know which Cinema in Birmingham. The website gives a good insight into the job itself.

    Aston Lower Grounds

Researching my GG Grandfather I came across this piece. The image is similar although not exact as Viv's image at post #42 above. Interesting that the text written post 1908 refers to Aston lower grounds as Aston cross.

    Few Old Bikes

One of my schoolmates had a Claud Butler, the rest of us used to drool over it. Closest I ever got to something decent was a second hand Dawes.

    Few Old Bikes

As a kid in the sixties, most of my bikes were made up from various other bike parts. Seeing those choppers reminded me of the handlebars we liked to use, 'Apehangers' or 'Cowhorns'

    Garrison Lane

I'd always believed this photo of me and my sister on a window sill was taken in Aston. I now think it's Garrison Lane.

    Garrison Lane

I recently discovered my parents had lived at 'back 4 317' Garrison Lane from around 1956 to 1960. I would have been a baby/toddler at the time so have little to no memories of it. Can anyone point in the direction of where in Garrison lane the house was located? Thanks.

    Bread and Dripping

I don't remember having dripping sandwiches as a kid. I do remember plenty of brown sauce sandwiches though. That said, this thread has enticed me to order a 250g tub of Black Country beef dripping to give it whirl. My wife say's it's best on toast.

    Horse Drawn Trams

I know we like to complain about the amount of advertising on the internet these days. Looks like it was no different in days gone by.

    Abbreviations - Army Records

Is it printed or hand written? If written could easily be misread from a scrawling hand. Struggled with a few military records myself in the past.
