Birmingham car parks and car parking of the past

I read that our planners and councillors had trips to New York, Washington, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Paris in 1956 to research the feasibility of parking meters.

King Edwards Grammar School Camp Hill

On Google I noticed that the Camp Hill courts were being used for car parking. I visited Kings Heath a while ago, it must have been around 2000! and I don't recall seeing the courts then, fashions change.

King Edwards Grammar School Camp Hill

I don't think anyone has mentioned that both the schools, Camp Hill and Kings Heath had Eton Fives courts. I don't recall the game being played competitively only as a "playtime" recreation. Memory prompted by Michael Portillo recently playing at a school on one of his endless train journeys.

    Birmingham Municipal Bank

I can't believe I haven't put in my tuppence worth on this subject, but I did a search and nothing was found. My first account was at Acock's Green, 1111, Warwick Rd. the sort of number you remember. Probably around 1945. I too remember the wide wooden counters and the brass foot rail, what was...

I do dislike St.Phillips being referred to as Pigeon Park. Reminds me of 1950's Tom Lehrer Poisoning Pigeons in the Park!

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

Camp Hill line had a mention in yesterday's prime minister's questions; local MP suggesting that the route should be extended to Longbridge. Eminently sensible, if you were traveling from Kings Norton to town by train you would certainly go via Bournville, to Pineapple you would most likely...

Now we have SIX the most recent is a plush Turkish style. I can't comment on how good they each are as I have stuck with...
